Show Garfield County Commissioners Join Many In Protesting Huge Land-Snatch Within Garfield County Garfield County Commission en were among the many who attended a meeting at Salt Lake last week to protest the withdrawal of national lands from general beneflclent use of the general public and dedicating hundreds of thousands acres for increased national acres to the use of a selfish few County Commissioner Dale Marsh of Escalanto warned that if the presidential order grabbing hundreds of thousands of acres should go into effect the following would happen In the area taken over: "Road development In the a-rea will stop: existing roads and trails within the area's boundaries will be blocked; oil and gas development will stop; grazing rights will be terminated; mining operations will stop; watershed and soil conservation will stop; logging and lumbering will stop: hunting and recreational expansion will stop." Commissioner Marsh added. "Public lands should be used for the benefit of all. not Just for those trying to lock them up." The meeting called by the Western Wood Products Association was held in the Hotel Utah and was attended by more than fifty persons representing land use groups including wool-growers, miners, bankers, farmers, sportsmen, and wildlife officials Also on hand were Wayne and Garfield County Commissioners, Utah State legislators, representatives of th' Escalante Chamber of Commerce, electric power groups and the Utah Depart mt nt of Natural Resources |
