Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY Finally wore old January out and that famous Ground Hog certainly saw his shadow to we know what we are in for. We still have some snow and a plentiful supply of mud. The doctors and nurses are kept busy with the sick and afflicted. Lamoine Pollock is improving, he went back to school to look things over. Gu-rena Robinson is still north with daughter Juana Staples who is out of the hospital now but still not released from the doctor's care. Orilla Cowles is much more comfortable since Dr. Kazan had her stay down with her leg elevated. Hode Alvey is exercising his arm with some do it yourself carpenter work. The Rol Porters got word that their grandson Robert had a broken arm, he is the son of Haws. Bill Haws is back in the hospital in Portland, Oregon taking tests and therapy. There weis several cases of three day measles here. Don and Judy Kelly went to Salt Lake City and both got the flu. Ronald Mecham had business in Mexico. Stan and Neta Haycock went to Monroe, so did Ott and Hilda Roundy. Gordon and Almeda Haycock were In Panguitch and brought Helen Haycock and baby here so Helen could sell brushes until the weekend, when Wood-row came to take her back to Panguitch. Clarice Griffin went with them and planned to join Afton Church and go to Sali-na for the funeral services of Irene Heaps, killed In an automobile accident. Her husband is Dar Heaps, their kinsman and a former resident of Escalante. Hal and Geneal Shurtz and daughter Vlcki went to Salt Lake, Valeree came home for the weekend to make Vickl a wedding dress, Kim Nelson was also here at the Shurtz home. Usher and Eva Spencer went to St. George, they visited Andrew and Isabell who are both homesick but realize he cannot live here, they practically devour their Garfield Pnnntv Maws Sariah Alvey accompanied me to St. George, we waited a week for good weather and the trip down was fine. We picked Virginia Smith up in Henrie ville and enjoyed her company, she stayed there to visit son Dar and work in the temple. We had snow road coming home but made It ok. Dr. Kazan was In last week but the dentist did not brave the storm and S. J. Alvey had his nerve up to have the rest of his teeth out. Ron and Evan Schow have a new grandson born to Suzie and Danny Thurston of Bountiful. Evan went up with Lynn Mel nelly to greet the newcomer. Ron drove the Coombs pickup and took Eph and Dicey to Salina for the funeral services of Irene Heaps. The Schow family la rather scattered; Ronald is in the Viet Nam area aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ranger, they are near enough to Viet Nam to hear the shooting and bomb-in . . Lynn is nearlng the end of his mission in Holland and hates to see it endod, he is as sistant to the District President now and really enjoys the work He talked to Myron Cot-tarn on the telephone anu hopes to be able to see him. Myron is over the border of Holland in Germany. Marian Schow Is gradually getting his leg back to normal, the school is hoping he will be in shape for the spring track meets, he won a trophy last fall with his running Grant and l-oretta Spencer had daughter Vicki Davis and two small sons from Panguitch Last week they had son Wayne, hit wife Caroline and their small daughter from Willard. Loyd and Betty Alvey had Va-noy and Ann Tullls of Woods Cross here, then their son Steven went north with them to volunteer for the Air Force. He took the examinations and phoned home for his birth certificate, high school diploma, and more cash. James and Millie Mclnelly had to build a room onto their abode, there was no space in that trailer house for James's reclining chair to recline. This Hon hunting business is quite the industry. Arnold Button is acting as guide and furnishing part of the dogs. They had one group from Alabama, one from Pennsylvania, the last one from Canada and one more to come from there. This last week waa record breaking, they got seven lions In two days, Larry Swenie shot one large torn with a bow and arrow. This sport could hardly be Indulged in by the financially embarrassed as it costs $550 per Hon after they get here, there is the traveling expense and having the animals mounted. Nelda and Lorell Munson went to Salt Lake City and attended the wedding reception of Janell Shurtz, daughter of Park and Laree, Maureen and Stan accompanied them. Stake Relief Society leadership meeting was held in the South ward and Stake Priesthood meeting in the North ward. All three wards, the two here and Boulder held their annual Gold and Green ball Friday night with a good attendance.Young folks from all wards took part in the floor show, some under the direction of Susan Johnson. The Samoan lad did a fire dance which was outstanding. Phyllis Alvey and Rolaine Lyman went with Dee Haws to Arizona to bring his car back. Wayne Pollock, Jerry Taylor, Dahl Llston, Terry and Denise Alvey spent the weekend In Boulder with friends. Sharon Dale Marsh took Shirley and the little girl to Cedar Citv to stay awhile. Dixie and Theron Mitchell also had business in Cedar. Flora and Walt Lelbenguth were in Richfield. Ardls and Norman Chrlstensen went to Richfield to meet daughter Jo and get their car. Vergene and Caroline Porter bought their daughter Ver-geania a car so they could have the use of theirs. The IaVern Griffins had Eldon and wife and Jolynn home from Cedar City. Lola Rae Llston was home too, and she and Joy Jolynn went to Wayne County for the wedding reception of a friend. Gloria and LaMar Grade and baby daughter have moved back to Calif. The North ward held a quartet festival Tueday night. Dar-re U and Dlanne Alvey had business in Clrcleville. Frank and Lance Coleman went to Moab to bring back a truck for the oil company. Speaking of oil the Colemans lost their fuel oil out of their tank, and there was no signs of leakage Koleen Griffin went to Phoe niz to visit relatives Ila Hawa came to this area to show off a new husband, new to her anyway, he Is Jess Winn of Richfield, they had lunch with the S. J. Alveys Three State road officials were here looking over the roads. Our High School ball team went to play the Valley team and were beaten. Some of our citizens went to Boulder for a meeting on this land grab business. Conscience is a tricky wench who often shows up late, i.'s that part of you that hu is when other things feel great |
