Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY This January thaw Is holding up remarkably well, we are getting mostly rain instead of the usual snow, no one complains about that but we fear the snow and cold will arrive later when Spring should take over. Blake Robinson kept folks here informed about their daughter Juana Staples who had heart surgery, she was on the operating table nine hours having two heart valves replaced. The operation was clean and successful but she had a hemorrhage and developed pneumonia which meant more surgery. Blake stayed until they figured she was holding her own then he came to look after things. Gurena and Beth stayed with her. Relatives here got word that Bill Haws was hospitalized a-galn In Oregon. The Frank Im-lays got word that Francis and Barbara had their ten month old daughter to a Specialist In Provo but she was better and back home in Fillmore. Sharon Dale Marsh took wife Shirley to Cedar for a checkup, the Ron Mechams and family were also in Cedar. Dale Marsh went to Salt Lake City for commissioners meetings, Thelma accompanied him. Gerald Haycock of Salt Lake visited at the Spence Haycocks and the Dee Haws home. Eva Dean Llston, Utahna Poulsen and LeNora Griffin spent a day in Richfield. Utahna met Lola Rae in Panguitch and brought her home. Rol Porter was in Panguitch for a school board meeting. From Panguitch came Reed and Sylvia Judd to visit relatives. The oil rig in the Upper Valley did not look too promising so they capped it over. One crew of workers who were flying to Sandy Ranch encountered rough weather conditions so spent one night In Wayne County. Had a letter from Leah Griffin In Elko, Nevada telling of the thrill they had when their home was picked as first prize winner in the religious category in Christmas decorations. They all enjoy the Garfield County news and are looking forward to coming home in June. Jim and Rae Smith and daughter of llenrlevllle visited here Marie and Morias Hall moved daughter Lillian Smith and kids to Cedar City where she has employment Fon and Keeu Thomson of Cedar City were here last week Mae Vonn Taylor made a lone trip to Cedar. June and Grant Thorson went to Idaho to tee where they are going to live. Delia Christensen of Las Vegas visited here. Mary and LaVern Griffin spent some time in Cedar with their family members, then on the week end Jolynn came home bring ing her roommate, nene Franks of Eureka. Marlene Haws and kids went to Richfield for dental plates, so did Slim Alvey. Don and Judy Kelly, Lane and Gerald-ine Llston, Ron and Linda Me-cham flew to Farmington, New Mexico for the weekend. Usher and Eva Spencer had daughter Patsy Cottam and her son Tommy here from Provo for the weekend. Evan and Nicki Excell went to Tropic for the wedding reception of Evan'a cousin. Evan also took his ball team and played Bryce Valley, they played hard but lost. Panguitch brought their team here and beat our boys but not far. Roe and Clema Barney and family were here from Page. The North ward held a church benefit dinner Saturday night for the organization officers and their partners, there were 26 present. Ervin and Kolleen Burrows went to Los Angeles, Calif, on vacation. Ernie Griffin passed another birthday milestone which was number eighty. Whitey's Cafe was robbed again, anything repeated more than twice they say becomes a habit, so that robbing Whltey has become a habit. Elda Haws and Geneal Shurtz held quiltings last week. Did you ever desire to kiss a chicken? If so where would one plant that caress? Rula Spencer said she felt like kissing the hen who contributed the first egg after the molting sea son. Florence Alvey went to Hatch to join her brother Ho-ward ' Prince and go to St. George to see their sister, Mildred Deuel who was taken there to be cared for by her granddaughter Kristlne Shake-spear. Florence stayed to help. The Wayne Barneys had daughter Jill and husband Kent Leigh here from Salt lake City. They had Brad and Elaine Peterson of Ogden with them to show them the scenic attractions of the area, also the Zenz Rock Shop and the Alvey M'lsei'm, they were really Impressed. Thell and Roxle barney visited relatives in the Salt Lake area. Hode and 11a Alvey are back home and he Is adjusting quite well to working with one hand while his other Is healing. They have a new treatment now, before tl-erapy they put the patient on Ice and chill them thoroughly The BLM meeting was held as scheduled and many cattlemen were concerned thinking that organization was trying to make wilderness out of the range, but they had no such intentions Nethella 0. Wool sey wrote an article for Sunday's Tribune regarding this and other problems of our a rea, she is now recognized as the Tribune correspondent. It Col. They are stationed about sixty miles from where Craig Twltchell Is stationed at Bal stan Spa Nuclear Reactor plant. Craig works four hours and goes to school four hours and keepa house on the side. He and a friend have a trailer house, of course the brothers are looking forward to a visit. The annual water meeting was held Saturday with very little excitement as the old officers and board members were put back in; they are Melvin Alvey president, Stan Liston, Arnold Button, Earl Brooks and Leo Wilson board members, snd Clyde Spencer secretary. Cap Attwood of Craig, Colorado has moved his family here in the Mclnelly family home and takes lion hunters on guided hunts. He haa dogs which tree the cougars (they call them lions), then the hunters shoot them down. They are reported having bagged some big ones. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the South ward speakers were Cal Porter and Don Coleman, Ludnda Alvey played a piano solo. The North ward program was put on by the Seminary under Robert Wells. Darrell Munson conducted and gave a talk, other talks were given by Kent Cottam, Jan Liston and Lance Hatch. Three girls sang, Patrice Griffin, Do- none Liston and Julie Shurtz Sarah Shurtz conducted the singing and Christine Droubay played the piano. Ernie and Batty Hill moved then- trailer house onto the lot owned by Roe and Clema Barney in the southwest part of town. Dinah Christensen made two trips to Richfield on cat buineaa, the first trip Pat So re nsen accompanied her and the second time Mohr went a-long. All types of modern gadgets are manufactured by the tons, push buttons have replaced all cranks except of course the human ones. |
