Show TION at THE HIGH SCHOOL li L P christensen dancing master of salt lake and former resident ot of this city spent the entire lay day on wednesday at the high school teaching and demonstrating correct dancing mr christensen held a class at and at the chapel hour at 1020 ile he demonet demonstrated rated how low to dance 1 when asked to demonstrate how not I 1 to dance he frankly admired that he coul dilt do it but made an attempt to illustrate some of the various positions and steps assumed and attempted in the ball rooms today all of which as they were yet were no more so than the real article which may be witnessed at almost any dance mr christensen made a pointed talk before putting on the demonstration in which he was assisted by a young lady pupil from salt lake in which lie he blamed jazz tor for the ills ot of modern dancing he declared that jazz has entered into every department of life to such an extent that it is going to require a real battle to rid society of it ile he stated that the cry is is for something with a kick in it and mr air christensen asked why not take morphine that has a kick in it but no more ot of a decided dangerous kick than jazz it music can be elevating then it can be degrading said the speaker and he maintained stoutly that jazz music is not elevating in any sense ot of the term whatever he called for brave men and women to stand tor for better music in the face of the public clamor until the public is educated to appreciate the noble the elevating and the inspiring side of music and demand nothing else As a moral influence upon the lives ot of young people mr air christensen unhesitatingly characterizes jazz music as one ot of the most dangerous that Is operating today |
