Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY The snow is almost gone but the weather man promised more and the clouds are gathering in readiness. We could get along with less than we had last year. Some of the sick are better, Hode Alvey came through his operation painfully but it was a success, he was to get out of the hospital the first of the week. Dean Gledhill's leg was not broken Just bent and cracked. Dr. Kazan brought Dean, Lamoine Pollock and Effie Kay Wright's baby daughter home, Effie Kay came sooner but the baby had to be hospitalized until it got up to five pounds in weight. Marian Schow discarded his crutches and walks without any noticeable leg favoring. Helen Shurtz took daughter Marion back to school in Salt Lake and brought Ray home. Marion had to be hospitalized with pneumonia but is out now and feeling better, has no voice yet but hopes it will return. Blake and Gurena Robinson had daughter Beth come from California and the family went to Salt Lake City where daughter Juana Staples will undergo heart surgery. Beth will help care for her. We are all standing with moral support and best wishes for Juana's complete and speedy recovery. Mildred Adair has moved home, trailer house and all. she wishes to thank everyone for their kindness and sympathy extended, and for the food brought during her days of grief. Iris Porter, Zella Alvey and Hon Schow got word of the death of their brother-in-law, Henry Emery of Salt Lake City. They all went up for the funeral services. Kate Porter accompanied Iris, they planned to visit awhile. Iris and the Walter Lelben-guths have a new granddaughter born to Welden and Marie Porter at the Page hospital Lyncoln Lyman and Paul Steed wer to Portland, Oregon on saw mill business Lynn Mclnelly is In Ogden attend Ing a five week training school for highway patrolmen, he will be stationed In Montlcello DUP meeting was held last week at the home of Mina Porter with 14 members and one visitor present, Lola Zenzgave the lesson and refreshments were served. Mack and Jo Barney and family came from Cedar City to visit the Claron Barneys and the Berlin Os-borns. Effie Kae Wright and baby daughter received recognition and many prizes as she was the first born there in '69. Don and Judy Kelly, Lane and Geraldine Liston went to Farm-ington, New Mexico. Claron and Ruby Griffin went to Oregon for the wedding of the daughter of her brother, Gerald Black. Whitey and Maralda Porter took their grandson Steven King to Panguitch to catch the bus for Phoenix where he would visit his folks, then go to Formosa where he will be stationed in the air force. Vernon Dean and Peg Roundy were here from Monroe, then Ott went back with them to bring home some State road equipment. Thelma and Doyle Cottam had business in Cedar City. Dale Lyman and part of his family were also there. Annette and Michael McCool of Long Beach, Calif, were holiday visitors at the home of her parents, Chase and Helen Shurtz. Don Kelly had business In Phoenix, and Ron Mech-am went to Denver, Colorado. Those we heard of going to l'anguitch for medical checkups and other business were Jim and Erma Gates, Bessie Griffin, Katheryn Coleman, Deon Alvey and Fon Mecham. Went to St. George and stayed several days last week with Aunt Mame Swapp, we called to see Amy Odegarde, she was out so we left a phone number and she called, then we visited with Delia True-mane and Hazel Sevy. Hazel and Earl will stay there the cold weather and sent regards to everyone back in Garfield County. They had visited Andrew and Isahell Spencer. Usher and Eva Spencer were also in St George. She is feeling better. Lewis Brown Sr. is here again in the interest of oil rigs. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the South ward speakers were Usher Spencer. H a 1 Shurtz and Lorell Munson. Louise I.iston played an orcan solo. The North ward held ward conference. LffMfl Me cham represented the YMMIA. Retha Shurtz the Yl.MIA. Helen Shurtz the Relief Society, and Dave Rose the Sunday School. The Lions club held a farewell party for the Grant Thor-sons who are leaving for Idaho. Lynn Hansen in Australia is complaining about the heat, lucky kid. other wise he is en-Joying his mission. Arthur Mc-Inelly wonders if he has an unknown enemy; he parked his loaded truck at the home of his sister in Richfield and went to bed. someone reported his truck on fire and they saved It and most of the load. Arthur's sister Nedra Hall of Vancouver, Wash, has been honored for twenty years service in Jantzen Sportswear. She started as a power machine operator, then trucker and the past several years as supervisor. She showed outstand- ing ability to get the job done, well and on time. Nedra is the past president of the Vancouver Bowling League and counts that activity her number one sports Interest, recently she has devoted more time to her six grandchildren Opportunity knocks but once they say on every human's door, those pesky bill collectors knock, and then they knock some more |
