Show J. Arthur Cooper Receives Doctorate In Philosophy At Peabody College Jed Arthur Cooper, representative of Garfield County in the, 33rd session of the U-tah State Legislature in 1959, received the doctor of philosophy degree from George Pea-body College for Teachers on Friday, May 29. Dr. Felix Robb, Peabody president, conferred the degrees at the college's 184th commencement exercises. Cooper, who majored in the foundations of education, holds the BA. degree from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and the M.A. from Peabody. The subject of his dissertation was: "The Role of the School in Otavalo Indian Society". Research for the project was done in Ecuador during the summer of 1963. Dr. Cooper, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jed E. Cooper of Panguitch, has accepted a position as assistant professor of education at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He Is married to the former Carol Joy Shirts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Shirts of Escalante, and they have two children. Dr. Jed Arthur Cooper Tho. Cooper family will be In Yucatan, Mexico, for several weeks in June and July to continue research on the education system there, a project of Phi Delta Kappa, national professional educational fraternity, of which he is a member.
