We Just can't keep folks out of the hospital; Ella Roun-dy, Andrew Spencer and 1 Charley Bailey are patients I there, Betty R. Alvey just came home with a fine new son. EUa's heart, as Dr. Dug-gins put it, was doing a tap dance, Andrew . Spencer could not j breathe and Charley was turning yellow. . The Forest Alveys got word that son LaDell of Kanab was in' a car accident and fractured his ribs. Mary Ellen Coleman went for a" checkup and was told she must have surgery. The only news we had of Rhoda Reynolds Barney was that she came through her operation but .was not out of danger. Lesrand Deuel was still in traction. Karl Deuel had a thrill, h went to sleep in a car in Uic garage and some pranksters hoisted the car up, when ha awoke he was up in the air . and no para-(continued Inside) : . ?! ESCALANTE (Continued) chute. Bert Houndy has taken a new lease on life, says he even feels like dancing. His feet have been hurting all Spring, so badly he had to quit the ditch work, the other, day he got his toe nails cut and corns doctored and feels like a new man; we agreed that If your feet hurt you hurt all over. They are still working on the tlephoncs and it is quite ex citing, just like a blind date, you call a number and get someone else in a different part of town. Euzell Cottam is still in the Cedar City hospital and they do not tell her when she can tome home again. The Rol Porters had two daughters, Velma Boulter of Calif, and Marie Griffin and her daughter Deloa Tucker of Provo here to celebrate Mlna's birth day. Others in attendance were Sariah Alvey, Clarice Griffin, Elda Haws, Caroline Porter, Reva Bailey, Golda Cottam, Yulond Mclnelly and Minnie Davis. Clarice Griffin went to Salt Lake with Velma and Marie to visit son Clem and family. The Boulder folks,have been here having their cars inspected, visiting and shopping. The cattle men have gone down the desert to start that long process of getting the critters situated for summer. Girl's Day was held Friday with daughters entertaining the mothers, they modeled clothing made during the year and the following program was presented: Bonnie Spencer announced the costumes and models, and Jack! Ormond announced the program numbers; accordian and piano duct by Sharon Schow and Eva-dean Hamilton; piano solo by Karen Cottam; musical reading by Caroline Cowles accompanied by Coleen Imlay; clarinet solo by Vickl Shurtz accompanied by her mother Ge-neal; reading, Linda Ormond; piano, solo, Donetta Haycock; song, Twila Behunin accompanied by Gladys Lyman; Mother and Daughter tributes by Gurena and Beth Robinson. The dance at night was girls choice. 3 Osmyn and Idonna Deuel of Hatch visited here with their mother Hulda Spencer. Friends of Norma Spencer got word she i3 being married to an ex-bishop in Provo. Our town was well represented at the races in Pangultch, Arnold Alvey's horse, Money Can, won a 330 yard race, Little Don, belonging to Dee Haws won the three eighths mile and Dee's other horse, Grantors Maid won the H and 70 yd. race, so everyone felt ther trip was worth while. f Alice Bajley and Areola Gates wentito Panguitch to visit Charley at the hospital. Ken School brought Helen from Salt Lake to spend the weekend with her dad. Dr. Duggins held a clinic here last week. Arvoime Alvey and Lil-lie Spencer ,yent to Cedar and visited overnight with Lana Alvey and 'Bonnie Spencer. Billie and Minnie Davis and the Blake Robinsons went to Las Vegas for the weekend races. Wanles Alvey bought a trailer house and parked it on the Bill Vadrene premises. Some, of our citizens talked to Tony Reynolds in Panguitch, he bad been in the Holy Cross hospital and still had his back in a brace. The Schows, Calvin, Martha Rae and Warren brought their mother Mildred'home and got her settled for the summer. Roger Hamilton was not lost, Just visiting. Darrel Alvey picked him up in Panguitch at the bus station and brought him home to help with a watering turn, then he had to leave for Fort Ord, Calif. Betty P. Alvey and Shirley Spencer went to Panguitch for medical checkups, so did LaFaye Bailey. LaVern Griffin went back on the job, he was still stifff and sore but figured he could limber up working. Jim Collins came from Texas and took wife Janet and 2 small daughter Lawnle back, so Kate Porter feels quite a-lone again. Chester Lay went to Salt Lake with Ken Sleight to help move Ken's wife and family here, then they, took 60 people on a horseback trek to be gone a week, others assisting with the horses and dudes were Reeve Baker, Klinn Haws, Loyd Gates and maybe more we did not hear about. The lilacs are starting to bloom, and the apple trees arc beautiful Jed and Garncal Smith and family took a Sunday trip to Hurricane to visit relatives., Roe and Clcma Barney and children were here for the weekend. Some Mother's Day visitors we missed were Alan and De-anna Worthen of Price and Vernon Dean Roundy and family of Monroe. The last DUP meeting of the season was held last week with a poor attendance, everyone is about meet-inged out. Three talented folks from the USU put on an assembly program for everyone interested, and many were. Forgot to mention the new high school officers, Lynn Schow is pres., Craig Twitchell vice pres., Linda Lou' Alvey historian, Linda Ormond business manager and the sec. will be chosen by Mr. Shurtz. Tony and Bobbie Van Hem-ert are here, Magoo is not with them, he passed away but they have another. Someone is mutton fed but it is not John and Lola Zenz, they bought a mutton and hung it out to cool and it came up missing in the night. Who would be low enough to steal from a blind man? Lola is feeling better but not quite herself. A telephone meeting was held here with officials from other places, hope they get the tangled mess straightened out. Tho schol teachers ' all went to Salt Lake for the meeting. We thought that school was nearly out, .tho kids were happy as could be, the UEA throwed up a block to help prolong the agony. |
