Show Lots Of Fish, Good Results Expected At Lake Panguitch Lake Stocking And Angler Success ' . - By Frank R. Daly Number of Rainbow Trout stocked in Panguitch Lake were: 1961, 356,000; ,1962, 278,000; 1963, 285,000 Total trout taken: 1961, 162,208; 1962, 68,266; 1963, 163,600. 359,000 were stocked In 1960, extreme loss during 1961 plant later reported. The trout sizes stocked In 1963 ranged from 4.3 to. 4.9 Inches. Water levels are important in fish survival. Low water level causing excessive weed growth may cause a pH prob- lem as experienced at Pine, Tropic, and a few other reservoirs. A more uniform size range of, planted fingerlings has been sought and partially achieved; this will Increase survival. The almost 60 percent, return in 1963 of the 1962 plant some older fish Is good for a lakeof this size, particularly since gill tests in November indicated a good carry-over of this year-class for 1964. The 1963 flngellng plant in Panguitch wasn't one of the better plants : low water causing an algae bloom and high temperatures forced us to plant at Doc Chamberlains during a westerly wind much of the time. Incidently, Panguitch was the "hottest" major fishing lake in the state in 1963. Geese And Ducks Canada geese and some members of the duck family will soon begin "housekeeping" on Utah marshes. Nesting starts during the month of March. We have had 300 Canada geese in the Panguitch valley the' last month, also 34' snow geese, 36 swans and about a thousand ducks. |
