Two years ago we consoled ourselves in the waterless situation by saying it was good experience, made us appreciate the easy modern way of life, but we did not need the same experience again so soon. They have 'a pump rigged up to take the water from the reservoir and put it in the head house, but It is hard and contaminated and if we use all , - that now what will we raise a garden and crops with next summer? Oh well, "even this shall pass away". Some folks have worse worries than that; Daniel and Orilla Cowles went to Salt Lake where she was scheduled to have surgery but she got a bad cold and has to wait until that clears up. Caramon Smith made it home from the hospital but was not too pert. Bill Griffin and Ar-den Taylor had some bad luck with a load of lumber they were taking to California: they seen a wrecked car and tried to turn out and slow down, they slowed the front end down but the trailer tried to get in lead and tipped the outfit over, the two men were unhurt but it did not improve the quality of their lumber. Paul Steed moved his wife and family to the city until everything is back to normal. Wanles and Dena Alvey went on vacation to Arizona and Mexico, their pipes froze along with other peoples and someone used dynamite to jar them loose, it did. John and Lola Zenz were frozen for a full week but finally got things thawed, John wants to know of Jim Jackson where the lettuce is. Those grandparents who became so vexed at having their antics disclosed should think of possible consequences before indulging, for a news reporters job is to comfort the afflicted and affict the comfortable. Dee Haw3 has been in Phoenix, Arizona with his horses, and his wife Elda has been in Richfield for dental work, then they both went to Panguitch for medical check- up. Drs. Mason and Duggins held clinlcsxhere last week, Rol and Mina Porter took their car to Richfield for a checkup. Elroy and Vera Davis had business in Richfield. Maggie Lay came very near having a burnout, her house caught fire underneath where they had used a blow torch to thaw the pipes, her daughter Rowena Barney crawled up under and put it out. Gail Bailey was helping fire the pipe line and burned the leg off a new pair of coveralls, and Reva says she won't patch them. Lavina Pollock has gone to California, to ..see-that new granddaughter, Alan took her as far as St. George and visited his sister Amy Odegarde. Missed last week the 4-H award meeting held here in the Elementary school with Escalante and Boulder 4-H'rs and their mothers in attendance. Marilyn Griffin brought the group from Boulder, Harold Lindsay came from' Panguitch, and the program consisted of songs from Linda Alvey and Grena Mclnelly, the cousins 3, Vicky Shurtz, Nicky Griffin and Gloria Bailey, and the group from Boulder. Myron Cottamplay-ed his horn and Lea Griffin and Marlene Haws gave talks on 4-H work. PTA meeting was held in the Elementary school where the High school joined them. High School PTA president June Liston took charge and ithe Elementary president Lea Griffin led them in the pledge. Talks were given by Lamoine Pollock, Hal Shurtz, Nethella Woolsey, Thelma Cottam, Carol Coombs, Berlin Osborn and Gwen Lyman, on problems of the school, it seemed one of the problems was getting the parents to attend PTA meetings. Bryce Valley played the local team here Friday night and won, both groups of girls marched, ono of the Tropic ladies got stung by a wasp "but was still alive at the end of the game. After the game the Freshies held their Frolic, drawing lucky numbers for cakes, Guile Deuel ended up with one and was surprised as he did not remember taking a chance. David Ray Shurtz and Bonnie Jean Spencer put on the floor show, unrehearsed. Both wards joined Saturday night and held their Gold and Green Bail and both ward MIA officers want to thank Norman Henrie of Panguitch for his help in teaching the young folks the dance, ho is here working as bookkeeper for the State road. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Fox of Circleville were hero visiting Dr. and Mrs. Richard Poul-sen, it gives one a secure feeling to have a doctor in our midst, and many folks are taking their ailments to him. Mr. and Mrs. OrisMoyes and Leda Pratt made a business trip to Panguitch, so did the Forest Alveys, the Thell Barneys, the Gordon Haycocks, the Elroy Davis and the Slim Alveys, we went on to Little's Ranch for dinner, found Mother carding wool for a quilt so she is in fairly good shape. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the South ward ' had a program put on by the Seminary 10th grade under the direction of Gary Wayne Graff. Talks were given by Lana Liston on "Parents": Susan Shurtz on "The Courage of Youth"; Lynn Schow on "Determination"; Thea Moyes on "Parents Support of Teenagers"; Angela Nelson on "Gossip"; Merlo Wool-sey on "Tithing".Gary Wayne Graff talked briefly on the Eleven Witnesses; Evadean Hamilton played a piano solo. The North ward listened to S tarns Mecham, Lucile Cowles, Paul Michael Cordon and Layton Griffin. The only college students we noticed home were Pauline and Dennis Lott, Lana Alvey and Bonnie Spencer. The yearly water meeting was held Saturday and new board members were elected: Melvin Alvey is president, Thurman Spencer vice president, Reeves Baker and Gail Bailey board members, Dee Haws was held over as a board member and J. Clyde Spencer as secretary. Reva says she is glad Gail got in, now he can do some of the things he has been complaining about the others not doing. The High School has turned off the drinking fountains and installed a coke machine. Fat folks get no sympathy, they look so hale and hearty, they're expected to do twice as much as some old skinny party. |
