Show 5. Escalante ChitChat f FAV ALVEY The weather got hotter but no wetter. They-are still working on the first crop of hay, it is way under what was produced last year and if we do not. get some moisture the second cutting will not amount to a hill of beans. The cattle are. still moving to get settled for the summer season. Most of the sick are better, Louise Mounteer and Denise Alvey are home from the hospital and feeling about as good as can be expected. Had some accidents that could have been serious but fortunately were not; Clyde Spencer was branding a calf, stooped over of course, when a bucking horse hit him between the shoulders with its front feet and knocked him down, kicked at his head knocking his hat off and hit his elbow,, Frank Coleman roped a bull and wrenched his shoulder, but neither of them had time to go to a doctor or take any time off, it slowed them down but they kept on going, Clyde and Lillie had a visit from son J. C, his wife Opal and part of their family from Mapleton. Blake and Gurena Robinson, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Kay Staples of Richfield went to Salt Lake City to attend funeral services of Mrs. Edwin Winder, she is the mother-in-law of their son Blake D. On their way back they wrecked their car bad enough they could not drive it home, but none of the occupants were injured. The Robinsons had visits from Ben and Rcnee Porter and family of Provo. MIna Porter is home and a-ble to get around. Zelma Wilson got an announcement of the birth of a baby girl to Rus-sel and Linda Wilson of Provo, she weighed 3 lbs. 6 oz. but doing ok the last report. The Wilsons, Leo and Lenza's estate, and Gail Bailey are still in the process of selling out. Mary Ellen Coleman spent a week in Salt Lake area visiting relatives, they held a family reunion, two brothers and six sisters, the first time all of them had been together for 10 years. They all rslde in that area except Mary Ellen, and Bessie Groom who lives in Ta-coma, Washington. They celebrated two birthdays, Alice King's and Bessie's. Mary Ellen got home in time to have a visit from Ernie and Louise Mclnelly Haselfeld from California, and Harvey Lay Jr., his family and some friends from Tacoma,1 Washington, the group had been visiting the temples of Utah. Dr. Mason and Shanna Goul-ding held a clinic here Thursday. Helen Shurtz took daughter Susan back to school in Salt Lake. David Ray Shurtz lost a red sofa pillow and he said he sure would like to get it back before Mrs. Shurtz missed it and started asking questions. Marjle Spencer has a new Ford touring car, the biggest swaziest one made, everything is automatic except the payments. Geraldine Lis-ton took her car to Cedar City for a checkup, Janeen Alvey accompanied her and stayed to visit the Ronald Mcchams. Smith and Betty Alvey and son Tony had business in Cedar City, Smith has gone to Beaver to work on construction on the same job Doyle Cottam is on, Doyle was home for the weekend. Louise Liston and Rula Spencer went north to school. Myrna Barker took their youngest son to California to a school for the deaf, Theo and Nell Barker visited the Paul Cardons in St. George. Last week's visitors at the John Zenz home were Jim and Rosa Lee Foxley from El Centra, Calif., Paul Casin and a Mr. Schow from Cedar City, Dr. Richard A. Poulsen, his wife Wray and son Tony from Lba. Nethella Woolsey, Minnie Davis and Vic Cottam spent two days in Panguitch on Jury duty, others we heard of having business in Panguitch were Shirley Spencer, Betty P. Alvey, Renee Osborn, Jo Barney and daughter, Allen and Lavina Pollock, Arnold, Sa-riah and Rayleen Alvey, the Listens, Grant and daughter Marlyn, Stanley and daughter (continued Inside) ESCALANTE (continued) Lois and son Brad, June was already over there helping to care for her father, Erol Dow-dell. Reed and Faun Thompson came from Cedar City, Faun visited daughter Barbara Haycock and family while Reed and son Jeff, and Billic Davis went fishing. Thurman Spencer had a I visit from his sister Mavis, her husband Gail Neil-son and their family from Oak City. Trix Heaps brought his mother Sarah home, they were accompanied by a lady friend. Thelma Marsh made a business trip to Cedar City. Dick and Donnett Lee and family visited relatives here. Mary Ann Sanetra went to Page where her husband Paul Is employed. Darrell Alvey went to Richfield to get a horse trailer. Newell and Dorthy Cowles came from Richfield for the weekend, Ivan Shurtz came from his job in Nevada and brought a friend. Howard Prince and Gene Wilson were here from the Hatch area on fish and rock business. The Ott Roundys have a new granddaughter born to Rcnon and Gene Reed of Monroe. Hilda Roundy and Ruby Griffin went out to see the new arrival and bring the older sister, Suzanne hero for awhile. Visitors we missed last week at the Blake Robinson home were Gurena's mother Rhoda De-Lang, and Lanca Brown of Koosharem, and Mr. and Mrs. Talmage DeLang of Ogden. Rulon Peterson of Salt Lake visited relatives here. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the North ward had as speakers Lorell Munson and David Ray Shurtz, a piano solo was played by Helen Alvey, all South ward people. The South ward listened to Louise Llston and Cal Porter talk, and Mark Griffin played a piano solo. The North ward Relief Society put on a fancy quilt belonging to Hortensc Munson and figured it could be a summer's project, they had to get it off before the funeral so several from the South ward gave them a helping hand. This time of year is hectic, there's work, Insects and heat. days too long ana nights too short, everyone looks beat. |
