Show Escalante Chit Chat -- FAY ALVEY The sunshine looks nice and warm but that breeze from the 'snowcapped mountains keeps the air chilly. More fruit trees have blossomed, if the frost will stay, away we will have some varieties. The cleanup i3 still In progressvsQmeLare xeak ly making a showing and others of us can't-(seem to make much head way. Vic Cottam is the brave man who took over the job as water boss, his phone number is so near like ourS we have gotten several of his calls, so we can see. his life is no bed of roses. They had teons Delmar and Kent home for the weekend. Euzell got in on a hectic trip to Panguitch with granddaugfy ter Vicki Coleman after Vickie and Jackie Ormond had run together in Calf Creek area. Neither was badly injured' but shaken up and it shook Vicki up worse when she lost her purse somewhere between Tropic and Panguitch. It is a. white punse, has her driver's license, credit cards and considerable money, of course she would greatly appreciate getting it back with all the contents. Alice Bailey, Allen Pollock and Steven Alvey are patients In the Panguitch hospital, they said if there was any change in Alices condition she was slightly .better, and they knew Allen was better. Steven got hit In the back of the neck .with a clod, kids just fooling, and he acted so dopy they took him over for examination and found he was extremely anemic, they gave him four pints of blood and he felt a lot better. Allen hated to spend that time in the hospital while daughter Faye and little girl were here. Victor Van Oostendorp came from Santa Ana, Calif, on the weekend- to take them home. Guy. and boys came from Richfield and they all visited Allen at the hospital. Ada Porter is home ior the summer, John and Erma Hamilton brought her. Eliza Mcln-elly is home, has been for two weeks but she was so quiet we did not know it. Ivan and Lu-cile Davenport and Mr. and Mrs, Paul D. Mclff brought her. Vincent and LaRue Spencer took' Eliza Sunday to Mt. Car-mel to visit Danny, and Lois Spencer and family, Lois is home from the hospital and doing fine. Missed last week the accident of Vicki Shurtz, they thought her arm was broken j. but xrays at Panguitch showed, it was a bad sprain, and her right arm too. She hates being bo fragile with all of the Senior activities going on. Alio failed to mention Utahna Lis-ton visiting her parents, tho Harvey Listons, she had a girl friend with her who is attending the same beauty school, and of course Elvon Poulson. Pat and Iletta Dix of Panguitch made two business trips here, also from Panguitch were Dean LeFevre and Mary Henrie on school lunch, business. ' Brent Durfey is another of our citizens hospitalized last week in Panguitch, .ManrAnn "Sanetra accompanied him' and Marie over as, he needed oxygen. Others we heard of going for medical checkups and treatment were Deon and Elthere Alvey, Al Porter, Fon Mecham, Allie, Mate and Nelda Spencer. Elthere got the cast off her arm, hut is not too well pleased with the use she has of it. Relatives here had a telephone talk with Dick and Dor-ene Schow, they were worried about Aunt Al Porter. Dorene is still in her body cast but-healing ok. Relatives here reported that Verl Hardwick of Midvab had broken her ankle, you should not' be old and clumsy yet Verl. Vera Davis had a weekend visit' from son Vernon and family of Richfield. Bernard Schow came from North Dakota, picked up his mother Lea-' tha in Provo and came here to check on things. He took daughter Sharon and young son 'back to Dakota to stay while her husband, Bob Carlson is in Alaska with an oil outfit. They took Leatha back to Provo. Morris and Neta Shirts returned safetly from their trip, said they took their time and enjoyed the scenery. They visited his brother Ertsell in the State of Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood B, Allred of Burly, Idaho, he was Escalante's first Seminary teacher and is retired now, but does (substitute teaching, his wife is teaching first and second grade. They visited the Paul E. Dahls in Boise, Idaho. All of these former residents sent best wishes to friends back In Escalante. Marjie Spencer took her mother, Lola Zenz to Panguitch to have her few remaining teeth pulled and some commercial ones installed, she is try-- ing to keep her chin up and her teeth in but it Is quite an ordeal, Zenzs had a visit from Bruce and Rela Wallace of Og-den, she is on the staff of the Juvenile Detention Center and he is head of State library that sends out the Bookmobiles. Norman DotUoa: .jailed from Las Vegas to borrow some rare specimens to display at a Rock Show there,, but his luck was not too good. Billie Davis had a tree planting project a little late for Arbor Day, his crew did not' stay wita hint -as he paid less than the Forest Service. Mary R. Mc-Inelly had a profitable visit from daughter Delma Reynolds and her daughter, and Dorthy Barney who came to (continued Inside) ESCALANTE (continued) clean her house and get her moved in. The town was honored to have two former residents return for their vacation, Ethyl Mathess of Minersville and Vera Zblnden of Murray, they are daughters of the late Harry Ogden of whom many stories are told, these sisters visited old friends and were having the time of their lives. Neta Shirts had niece Rae Twitchell of Enterprise here for the weekend; she is a student at CSU and came with some of them, most of them come home every weekend. Stake Relief Society and Priesthood meetings were held here Sunday. Saturday night the Relief Society Presidency, Helen Shurtz, Lizzie Porter and Gen-eal Shurtz went to Boulder to their Relief Society Bazaar. The Escalante Riding Club held a meeting under the direction of Pres. Glen Luellen to make final plan's for the race meet to be held May 6th and 7th. Eldred and Veda Mitchell went to Cedar City to see Gar (April 28 & May 5, 1966) lan and Ruth Marie and their new son. Glen and Coleen Im-lay took their kids to Salt Lake for dental appointments. Newell and Dorthy Cowles were here from Richfield. Zella Al-vey is home, her daughter Gall Stonehocker brought her back from Salt Lake. Ronald Guy-man took the Juniors and Seniors to Cedar City for a Seminary Youth convention. Ann Spencer took a group to Eph-ralm for a commercial meet. Three car loads of young people went to St. George for baptismal services at the temple. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the South ward had christening services for the infant son of the Karl Thurbers. He was named Allen Royce. In the North ward Kevin Porter received his Tenderfoot Scout badge. Golda and Euzell went to Cedar City where Euzell had a date with the eye doctor. Francis Imlay and family and a friend visited the Frank Im-lays. The home of Kate Porter is empty and lonely, daughters Bonnie and Janet, and granddaughter Lpnnie left for Salt Lake where Janet will attend a Beauty school, Lonnie nursery school, Bonnie hopes to find employment. We wish them " the best of luck. Claron and Ruby Griffin and Ott and Hilda Roundy went to Salt Lake to see the Jimmy Dean show, Ott had some personal business with Jimmy's dog, Ralph. Lots of folks had birthday enniversaries: Emma Gatels, Cummings and Golda took her to Cedar City planning to buy her some glasses, but the eye doctor said she did not need them, Erma Gates accompanied them; Emma is 82. Wallace Roundy became 78, his daughter Betty Alvey cooked him a dinner and members of his family from other places sent gifts and called him on the phone. Wilmirth Wooley celebrated hers after work by getting her hair done and had a telephone call from daughter Marva Jeson and daughters of New Mexico. Sariah Alvey celebrated her 76th anniversary at the home of her daughter Minnie Davis; guests were Deon, Betty. Tony, Dianne, Linda and Fay Alvey, Golda and Euzell Cottam, Marjle Spencer, Lola Zenz, Mae Vonn and Jimmy Taylor, Nell Barker, Clarice Griffin, and Grena Mclnelly. Neal and Fae Jepson of Boulder had business here. Gloria Bailey had an invitation from 'sister Elaine Shurtz in Hawaii to spend the summer there and work, if she can postpone her modeling school she would like to try it. Spring is a wonderful season, all plant life commenced to grow, but why does it make human beings so tired dopy and slow? |
