Show Unlike Beatles They Don't Even Sing Earwigs have built up their populations to a truly troublesome numbers this year in the Pangultch area as well as other communities in Garfield County. Greatest success is being a-chieved where neighbors cooperate to control the pests and secure longer freedom from their annoyance. To control earwigs successfully, Dr. George F. Knowlton, USU extension entomologist, suggests: Apply chlordane, di-eldrin or heptachlor as 5 per cent dust or granules about the home yard areas where the earwigs travel and feed at. night. To allow earwigs full contact with the insecticides in order that control may be most successful, water lawns and flowers some hours before treating for earwigs, then. do not water again for a night or two. "Caution: Avoid dusting or spraying these insecticides on parts of plants that are to be eaten. Applied with care, food contamination can be avoided and successful pest control obtained," the entomologist said. Bulletins on the control of earwigs may be obtained at the County Extension Office. |
