Show Escalante Chit Chat FAY ALVEY The weather is cool and partly cloudy but we do not get much moisture, to the sorrow of some and the delight of others. The holidays passed without anything too drastic taking place.-Kelth Ormond of Boulder turned out to let a bridge pass, the car Jumped the big ditch winding up by Lorln Cottams. No one was Injured. Since we have a game warden here the deer are becoming so numerous they are a safety hazard. Dot and Anthony Coombs ran into one coming from Boulder, It throwed their car off the road doing considerable damage but they were uninjured. They started walking and Richard and Marilyn Griffin picked them up. Wllford and Koleen Griffin went back to Salt Lake City to be with David who they hoped was strong enough to be put in a cast. Richard SidwelL son-in-law of the Spence Haycocks, was seriously injured at the Upper Valley oil rig. Dr. Mason brought an ambulance and took him to the Pangultch hospital where he is being treated for shock before they can set his broken bones. He has fractured skull, brain concussion, broken ribs that punctured a lung, and some injured verta-brae. His father came from out of State, and Mary Lynn stays with him almost constantly. That leaves Spence and Hazel to be baby sitters. Morris and Neta Shirts made it home ok from their Christmas vacation. Art and Carol Joy took them into Old Mexico and they visited points be- (continued inside) ESCALANTE (continued) tween there and here. Neta had the experience of picking oranges from the tree, something she had always wanted to do; they visited Rol and Ml-na Porter and would have visited Jennings and Mildred Allen but could not find them home. They had messages from Grant McMulen and wife, and the Jimmy Gatherums sending regards' to all ' of their friends back home. Myrtle Hunt had been to see Rol and Mlna Porter and they were not home, as she left their house she fell and broke some bones, Jennings and Mildred Allen took her to a hospital. Alvin Griffin and family were here again visiting relatives before, leaving for Germany. The road cop was in town helping Reed Wooley give folks tickets, Arden Taylor can fill you in on ttje details. Some hoi-, iday visitors we missed were Wanles and Dena Alvey of Arizona, LaVand and Virginia Bauer and son Danny, and the Garlan Mitchells' of Cedar City. Caraj Mon Smith went to FarmlngtpTJ, New Mexico to visit her intended but made it home in time to greet the New Year. Raymond Griffin was home, for the holidays. Charley and Alice Bailey had Jim and Wanda Houston here for a holiday visit. Alice gets around in a wheel chair. The Forest Alveys had son LaDell and family from Kanab. Ray Welch of Kanab'is here working for Bernard Schow in the station. LaVern Griffin has gone back to work, this time in Green River.' Billie and Minnie Davis . had grandchildren, Machell and Alfred Foster of Tropic as weekend guests. Iola and Hanes Woolsey.went to Richfield to get their pickup they had taken for repairs after it got jammed during the slick spell. Iola brought the touring car but wished it had been the pickup as she shopped for the cafe and came home loaded. Theo Barker got word of the death of his brother Sheldon who died suddenly in a Salt Lake hospital, he will be brought here for burial. George Hamilton and daughter Evadean came from Calif, for one more load of their belongings. Usher and Eva Spencer made a business trip to Pa-rowan. Vergene and Caroline Porter and family took a holiday trip fb Provo. Lane and Geraldlne Liston and Deon Alvey went to Panguitch for mod-leal checkups. Klynn and Mar-lene Haws were there for the same purpose. Thell and Ro-wena Barney and Maevonn Taylor went to Cedar City. Dr. Richard A. Poulsen, his wife Wray and son Tony were overnight guests at the John Zenz home. Rotis and Ethyl Durfey were here from Wayne Counjy, they reported Ralph Baker unrgolng surgery in Richfield. Starns and Faun Mectiam got into the new part of their house by Christmas; their son Ronald came from Cedar for New Year's and brought Linda Stubbs of Par- . owan, Jeff Thompson and wife were also here. Jay Porter worked himself out of a job so is home for the dull season. The Enterprise High School played the local team here and beat them, our boys did win a game even if they had to go out of state into Nevada to do so, they beat the Alamo team. There will be a meeting Monday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. in the new Home Ec. room for the purpose of planning some classes in type and beginners sewing using the Bishop method of clothing construction, if you are interested in either be at that meeting. 64 is in the past, we're start-now on 65, hope that when it closes we all are still alive. |
