Show ESCALANTE CHIT GHAT By Fay Alry It froze ice again and we , hope some of the fruit sur vived; the lilacs rushed the season a little and are beautiful. Folks are working their heads off housecleaning, firming and trying to keep out of mischief, some are not succeeding too well. There are some good providers in Escalante, the no coat weather revealed folks in their true form, many are positively plump, and me with 'em. Dawn Griffin made it home from the hospital and is gradually recovering her zip; Reva Bailey and Eliza Mclnelly were still there but some improved. Nell Barker is a surgery patient there, Dr. Mason was assisted in the operation by a Doctor friend who was visiting him, they pronounced it successful, and while he was there Layton Griffin was taken in with a mangled thumb, at first they were going to cut it off but decided to save it by making a hole In Layton's side and burying the injured thumb in the live flesh, it is a gruesome sounding deal but we hope it works. It seems his Injury was caused by trying to block a truck with it, his right thumb too. The tiny Smith baby is still there but steadily gaining. The irrigation water lias started on turns so if you see or hear prowlers it could be some poor soul who drew a night turn at watering. Arnold Alvey, Zella's man, is experiencing all the joys and blessings of beins water boss. The other Arnold, Deon's man, got on for Garkane as lineman and is working out from Escalante. The Lorenzo Griffins got word that their son Gerald has finished his assignment at the South Pole and is back in California with his family. Lola Zenz and Rae Fynan have made repeated trips to Cannonvllle for browse. Nellie Bailey is hom from her vacation in California. Robert and Louise Us-ton have bought tthe Grant McMullen home formerly owned by Leo Munson. Ivan and Nelda Willis made a business trip to Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Glade Roundy'i and family of Salt Lake weroj here visiting his parents the Wallace Roundys .and other relatives and friends. Reports from our missionaries are good, they are busy and happy. William Mitchell had his brother Melvin and sister Myrtle of Delta here visiting. Lorin Griffin is still just enduring all the pain and ner vous reactions following the amputation of his toes. Marion Woolsey tries to work like he used to and then does not feel so good. The Artie Circle opened Sunday, the coldest day we have had for some time, Ila Haws Jeppson is running it, Neta Poulson of Boulder helped her Sunday. Dick Lee moved his trailer house on to the lot between the Melba Gates home and William Mitchells. Beryl and Retha Shurtz ana Thelma Marsh went to Cedar City for dental appointments Saturday, while there they found that their sister Virginia Bauer had almost been burned out. A dryer full of clothing had caught fire destroying the fabrics at an es timated cost of fifty dollars, neighbors saw the smoke and called the fire department who got it extinguished, but things were badly smokea up. Lenza and Zelma Wilson accompanied by son Dale went to Circleville for grain and got in a rain storm. Theo Barker was home" for the weekend and visited Nell in the hospital. Douglas and Jean Mclnelly and son were home for the weekend so was LaVern Griffin. If you happen to have to travel that Upper Valley road don't ' go too fast to sttop quick or you may break your fool neck, road has some terrible holes not just ruts. Verge and Shirley Spencer have a new Mercury car, a 62 and pretty blue, Slim Alvey got a new Ford truck and thought his creditors would not notice the difference if he got the same color and kept the same old bed. Mate Baiigh and two friends sawed down the trees around the Blake Robinson home. Morris and Neta Shirts got word of a new granddaughter born to the J. Gary Wayne and Don- 1 na Graff acted as sponsors, fed the group and found i them beds in different homes j here, it was quite a gigantic undertaking as there were over thirty adults and some j children, all Seminary teach- j ers from Milford to St. j George, but the weather was j fair and they, seemed to en- joy the trip. . Dale Reynolds took his j mother Maud to Central for Easter where they enjoyed . Easter turkey dinner with the : Duane Barneys who enter -tained twenty two relatives, Cliff had to stay home and care for the cat. Elise Ott of ' Tropic was here cleaning her house so the Dave Mclnellys could move in, the grass was not as green in Mesa, Ariz, as they thought it would be. The local Riding Club Is sponsoring a Race Meet here Saturday, May 5th, bring your horses and come. DeUa McFarlane and daughter were here cleaning her apartment and getting It readyy for rent to the oil people they are expecting any day, the rig equipment is being moved in. Sariah Alvey celebrated her 72nd birthday anniver sary tho 25th at her home assisted by Euzell and Golda Cottam, Thelda Webster, Iris and Mina Porter, Verda Griffin, Neta Pollock, Minnie Da- vis, Bonnie Smith and the Alveys Deon, Betty, Dot, Irene, Linda, and Fay, she got cards and presents from other relatives and friends. Sle-via Mclnelly of California sent her a sure cure for insomnia, two frightening lit tie creatures whom she sits right by her bed, and she dare not open her eyes so sleeps right through. Neta Shirts and LaRue Griffin visited Sunday with the sick in the hospital. The Seniors took their trip to Salt Lake City with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Coombs and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Wor then as chaperones, they reported having had a wonderful time. Marjle Spencer went up for Saturday FHA meetings and Dot Alvey went along for company, they had IMMMMM HMMMMMKlLVMMllMJLJlJlMJlJt car trouble and had to spend a night in Richfield. The South ward held Primary conference Sunday un-j der the direction of President Lizzie Porter, the children all had parts and did right well. Gary Wayne and Donna Graff took prominent parts, the cousins three sang accompanied by Susan Shurtz The North ward had a Genealogical program with Yuv Pnne and Elaine Roundy of Boulder speaking, and Dena Alvey gave a musical reading accompanied by Ruth Griffin. Sharon Griffin was ordained a deacon. Bernard Schow is still spending his weekends shear ing sheep. The James Mclnellys were here again. Flora Bardwell and Harold Lindsay were here getting the 4H MMK-II-MMMIIM--MMM-K-IIMWMMM clubs organized. The Panguitch High School presented an assembly program which was enjoyed by the local students. Ivan Willis spent several days in Wayne County on SC business last week. Gurena Robinson sat down so hard that now she cannot sit so gets a lot of work done. .Royal and Rela Alvey of Tropic and their daughter Alton Branch came to visit Sunday but could not find Annie Alvey so went back. The Stake and ward Relief Society workers went to Tropic for their monthly preparation meeting Sunday. We're happy when finally it's Spring, the sun shines and sweet birdies sing, then first thing we know the cold breezes blow, we shiver and shake everything. |
