Show County Water Systems Fail To Win Health Dept Approval Not a single community In Garfield County has a municipal water .supply system which receives the "approved" rating of the Utah State Department of Health. Of the nine municipal systems listed in the county only three made the "provisionally approved" list: Dryce Canyon, Hatch and llenrieville. On the "not approved" list are Antimony, Boulder, Can-nonvillc, Escalante, Panguitch and Tropic. This will come as a shock to many residents of Panguitch who remember when the local water supply held an enviable rating as one of the purist in the State. The Utah Department of Health explains its ratings as follows: "Approved" means (l)that a sanitary engineering survey of the siystcm has disclosed no defects which might be expected to result in contamination of the water, (2) that water samples liavc been submitted regularly for bacteriologlc analysis, (3) that bacteriologic quality of the water has met the requirements of the State of Utah, and (4) that operation reports have been submitted to the State Health Department regularly. "Provisionally approved" means that the supply has met all of the requirements specified for an "approved" rating, except for minor defects now in the process of correction. This rating can continue to apply to surface water supplies treated by chlorination olone only If complete, treatment facilities are being planned. "Not Approved" means (1) that bacteriologic quality of water has not met the requirements of the State of Utah, or (2) that water supplies have .not been submitted regularly for bacteriologic analysis, or (3) that a sanitary engineering survey of the system has disclosed defects which are not in the process of being corrected, or (4) that operation reports (where required) have not been submitted to the State Health Department regularly. |
