Show BEGINS J tile the whistle at the sugar factory will blow in the mornin mornings mor ninis at seven announcing the opening of the 1921 sugar making campaign the prevailing good weather has haa given the fit farmers ot of tho the district a splendid opportunity to got get after the harvesting of their beets and as aa a result between two and three thousand tons have been delivered to the beet sheds this Is a sufficient SUT sun ply to warrant setting the machinery in fit motion to grind up the beets and so superintendent pearson has been busy all of yesterday and today assigning the workmen to their various stations to be in readiness in the morning tor for the grand opening to use a familiar phrase the factory has hag veen completely overhauled during the summer and is in spick and span condition the best out revealed everything in readiness and the most successful campaign in the history of the factory is anticipated the beets have continued to grow grov in size and in sugar content so that there promises to be a tonnage as well as a heavy yield ot of sugar producing material the factory factors will operate upon a twelve hour leour day schedule this year because of 0 lack of funds some efforts have been made to have the schedule changed back to the eight hour day with a corresponding cut in salaries in order that more men may bo be employed and more equitable working hours maintained the matter Is now being considered and may finally bo be disposed of before another week passes with the opening of the sugar making campaign the local commercial world will take on a brighter look and everyone will feel better because of the longer working shifts put into effect there are a number ot of workmen who expected to be assigned a position who are still without t a joli job out there are also a great many men who here doing little or nothing who are now at work earning a salary and employing their time at something other than idleness at the sugar factory all is bustle and enthusiasm and this spirit will continue to maintain until the end ot of the campaign sometime near the beginning odthe new year |
