Show ESCALANTE CHIT CHAT HY FAY ALVEY The weather stays hot and dry, it trys to rain but the wind won't let it; folks who live close to the race track are still getting their ears full of sand and arc advocating that we make a swimming pool where the track now is. They are still Heaping more dirt on these roads, don't know how they expect us to get up on them, the worst feature of it is that those patrol operators took some of the ditch banks to go on the road and it is mighty hard to keep water in a ditch with only one side, of course anything that is done under the name of improvement we have to stand. Wo got one more water turn which we hope saved some tomatoes and string beans. Escalante is still doing her bit to keep the Panguitch hospital in patients; Sam Alvey was taken over for treatment and he passed away, his son Loyd and son-in-law Larry Chynoweth were with him; Charley Bailey had some sort of spell and is there being treated; Norma Liston came home for a brief vacation between Summer school and the starting of another school year and had to be operated on having everything removed that she could get along without; our newly" married daughter LaVce cut her hand on a glass and we took her over to have it sewed up, took six stitches. Dr. Mason was out of town and Dr. Dug-gins out to dinner, of course he hurried, with aU twelve - k courses and brought his dessert with him, some of that non-fattening fudgo candy. They would not let Mama nor hubby witness the sewing up, guess they were afraid we were Pantywaists and would faint or something. Merl Brin-kerhoff and Iva Sorenson of Glcnuale were patients there, also Mrs. LaMar Chamberlain of Orderville, so we rvnewed old friendships. Forgot to tell you last week that LaVern Griffin moved his family from Battle Mountain, Nevada back here as he was transferred to somewhere in the vicinity of Ely and there was no place for a woman and kids, right after they got home the Keith Hendersons of Overton came to visit them. Vernon Griffin cime home for the weekend and took his family to Richfield for dental appointments. Usher and Eva Spencer have had a house full of company, Courtney Spencer and wife and part of his family; Dale Jolly and his wife and family, then their son Karl and bride came, the latter took Eva north for medical treat-ent. Ivan Willis and family made it back from their vacation, they went to Yellowstone Park and hob-nobbed with the bears, their son-in-law, Wfyne Dean found Bountiful loo crowded with dentists so ho sot up to practice in Granger. Marlah Adair thought sho would go to Provo and visit (continued inside) ESCALANTE her sister to get out of the heat, but it was so bad up there she had a heart attack and was glad to get home, her daughter Deloa and son-in-law Frank Savage of Enterprise came to visit her, she got word that she has new twin grandsons born to her son Jerry Porter and wife of Henderson, Ncv, this makes five children for them. Neta Haycock went to Nephl for three days schooling in measuring the vitamins and other particulars pertaining to the school lunch job. Lorin and Bessie Griffin went to Wayne County and brought home Al-vin's youngest girl, Carma Jo, they have had his two older children hero since school closed, the children's mother Jean is in Salt Lake attending beauty school, Alvin and his present wife are both in Germany. Leola Heaps of Salina was here visiting her sister Dicey Porter, her son Tommy came also to attend a class reunion of the graduating class of '56' it was held at Posey Lake with six of the class present then some had partners, they were besides Tommy: Douglas Haycock, Deanna Lyman, Janet Griffin, now Mrs. Jim Spencer; Dixie Spencer, now Mrs. Theron Mitchell; and Lillian Porter, now Mrs. Don Coleman; the group had a picnic and visited. A family reunion was held at the George Spencer home for all the descendents of his grandfather George Spencer, there were 18 present and Alice Griffin was put in President with Jim Spencer as Secretary. Russel Porter, son of Mar-lah Adair Kirk Spencer, son of Sox, and Wayne Spencer, son of Grant, all signed up for the service, they took them right in for examination, passed Wayne 100, cut his hair and put him on a plane for Fort Ord, Calif., the other two boys they told to go home and purify their systems for two weeks and come back. Cell Woolsey has his granddaughter Caroline Gry-mes here for a visit, she is Clone's girl. Shirley Spencer took her small daughter Dotty tor Salt Lake for an operation. John Norman' and Deon Alvey came from Cedar City for the weekend, but not to-gether. The group that John Zeni refers to as "The Horsie Boys' went to Richfield and Salina to a District Riding Club meet, thev were the Arthur Mclnellys, the James and Smith Alvcys; Darrel Alvey. the Kirk and Ivan Lymans; Emmorn Peterson and son Jimmy, then Arnold Alvey and Scot Jensen came from Cedar City. This group took first in the relay race, and Darrel too.k first in the calf roping and won a trophy. Pres. Arthur Mclnelly spurred the wrong horse and got throwed cutting a gash In his head but they think he will live. Roc and Clema Barney took her dad Marlon Woolsey to Richfield to get his eyes examined and found that he has only been seeing half as much as he should, his left eye was shirking its responsibility; the eye Dr. said ho could only fit him with glasses for close up seeing, if he wants to see things In the distance he will have to go where they are. Bill Payne's bed gets so tired of him he gets around until everything he has hurts, then he has to go back to the bed. Annie Alvey had company from Springvllio; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Felix and sonWal-ly, Mrs. Felix is the former Juanita Alvey, daughter of the late Victor Alvey. The Merry Stitcher 4H club under the direction of Twila Mclnelly, Betty Alvey and Marjo-rie Spencer has a project of cooking some goodie every week and taking to some older people; last week they took a cake to John and Martha Davis and this week baked cookies for Philo Pratt. The Sunday Sacrament meeting program in the South ward was put in by Gail Bailey and his family, they divided up the ten commandments and each gave a talk on one or two, then Sandra Porter played an organ solo and Re-va, Gloria and Sandra sang, accompanied by Elaine, they even brought their son-in-law Bobby Porter in on it. In the North ward talks were given by Evan Roundy and his wife who are visiting his mother Jane Roundy, Lewis Griffin and Vernon Spencer also talked then Thelma Cottamsang. Regarding naturo of mankind the fact is proven well if you pat ft man upon the back his head will start to swell. |
