Show ESCALANTE CHIT CHAT By Fay Alvcy The weather was real nice for Thanksgiving but before the weekend was over we had a little skiff of snow and the atmosphere cooled off considerably. It is time the Fall work was all finished but omo of us can't seem to get it done up. Earl Woolsey will soon have his house finished at the rate it is going up, the Valley Builders of Gunnison are doing it. Some of the sick are better, John Norman got out of the hospital and able to help Bob Woolsey spend his weekends; Mariah Adair .stays about the same, her neighbors say she looks good, but neglectful me has never been to see her yet. George Spencer is still up North being treated, Jay Deuel and family came from He-ber for Thanksgiving and took Hulda back up to be with him; Jay is a full time employee of the State running the National Guard Unit at Heber and looks prosperous and happy. Forgot to tell you last week about Joanna Barker's kids coming to visit; her daughter Elsie Fitts and son Elvin both of Salt Lake and some members of their families, they are all trying to get her to go somewhere for the winter but (she likes to be home wjiere she can be her Own boss. The Joe Pollocks have a 56 Buick, looks real neat. The Byron Cottams and Carl CoUams were all here for the holiday, of course Cottams had to share Garl end Patsy with the Usher Spencers who also had Karl and Ann here; Byron took his father Lorin up North to a doctor as his heart was acting up. Bish Schow got to feeling so good that ho and Mildred went to Salt Lake for the holiday, their son Warren came and got them, Catherin Coleman and daughter and Rolaine Lyman and daughters went to Panguitch for dental appointments, Catherin makes repeated trips to Cedar City taking her daughter to the eye doctor. Lots of folks went elsewhere for Thanksgiving and quite a number came here; Ivan Willis took lils wife and two remaining kids and went to Kearns and Granger; Gail and Reva Bailey went to Mesa, Arizona whero Bob. and San- dra Porter are, also Reva's brother Evan Peterson, Ter-ril and Gloria stayed here to be thankful ; Hugh Bailey has been here visiting his par. ents the Charley Baileys, and. he went to see about a job at Glen Canyon Dam. Bernard Schow has a job there and has his family with him, the James Mclnellys spent Thanksgiving with them then they all came here for the rest of the weekend. Dicey Porter had her son Bobbie Barker and family of Nephi, and daughter and son-in-law the Wayne Banks' and their family of New Mexico', the Clyde Spencers had daughter and son-in-law the Douglas Loslees of Richfield and daughter Bonnie who attends college at Cedar, It looked like all the school kids from CSU came home, and Ronald Mecham brought Jeff Thompson with him; the Blake Robinsons had the Ben Porters of Provo and the Kay Staples of Richfield, also daughter Ruth and a college chum. Daniel Wllcock had the La-vand Bauers of Cedar City for Thanksgiving day then on Friday he and Thelma Marsh, Beryl Shurtz and his family went to Cedar City and stayed over night, Dale Marsh stayed home to do chores. Beryl has a bad leg, got hit by a pipe being hauled on a cat The Grant McMullens had s his parents from Leeds here; 1 the Edson Alveys had Ionna's mother Rose Peterson and her brother Gloran Goulding i of Salt Lake; Vernon Spen- I cers had Rula's brother Jer- ' aid, his wife Janice anddau- ghter Shannon, and Rula's , sister Ann Beth and some ; friends, Ann and Cliff Slier j and their children Becky and i Randy from Murray. ! The Reeves Bakers had i .their daughter Laurel and 1 her husband and daughter, also son Wllmer and a cousin Vernon Bean who is a grandson of Victor Bean who used to teach school here, they took up the time in the North ward Sacrament meeting Sunday; in tho South ward Jim nd Janet Spencer and Val Harrison did the talking. William Mitchell took his grandsons tock to their mother, the former Flora Baker (continued Inside) ESCALANTE and went to spend Thanksgiving with daughter and son-in-law the Jessie Spencers, Sterling Larscn came and spent several day with the Frank Lays. The Arthur Mc-Inellys got word that they had a new grandson born on Thanksgiving day to their daughter Mary and Shcrill Davis of Phoenix, Arizona, Grandma Twila was going down but decided her family here needed her worse, The Stanley Listons went to Las Vegas for the holiday where Juno's folks were having a family get-together, theMohr Chrlstenscns also went there "but not for the get-together. The Walter Leibenguths spent the day in Hcnricville with her people. Cecil Griffin had to buy a new car to get home from Glen Canyon, his other one quit on him. Vic and Euzcll Cottam and Vcrda Griffin made a business trip to Cedar, and Delmar . Cottam made one to Pan-gultch. Gerald Barney came from Idaho to visit his parents the Thel Barneys. Mary R, Mclnelly got word that her nephew, Isaac Richards had been killed In Las .Vegas, they did not get any particulars. The Vergo Spencers and Kate Porter went to Kingston to cat turkey with their sister Vio Scdwicks and family. Merle Princo has had some old college chums who are also Forest Rangers here to see the country; a Mr. Hogart of Monticcllo and his wife and girls; and a Hanger from Panguitch, we did not get his name but he Is the tall blond goodlooking one. Merle took the men to Hell's Backbone, Holc-In-thc Rock and other places of Interest, then' Merle and family went to Panguitch f6r the current holiday. Will R. Porter and son Elmer went to Lehl for their harvest feast, tho Ray L. Alvcyscame from Roy and stayed with the S. J. Alveys, they always manage to keep Ray L. and his tools busy, the Venice Hansons of Salt Lake City were at the Hode Alvey home, the Ilandal Lymans had son Dick and his wife and DcAnna home, also mother Mary Lyman came from St. George. The Donald Listons came from Panguitch so did the former Alice Ann Christiansen and LeAnn Spencer and brought their husbands for the dance, which by the way was a small ono for tho occasion; Dewey Wills and wife came from Henrieville but they were cither too full of turkey or Just did not have the usual spirit of tripping the light fantastic. Bert Roundy got his money's worth spectat-ing, he dozed through tho slow ones and tapped his foot in time with the faster ones. There did not seem to be anyone sloppy drunk, some were well enough oiled to keep their joints from squek-ing; the Vernon Dean Roun-dys were there, LaRae helped out with tho music. Lewis and Jean Griffin wero here from Lehl; Gaden and Mclba Gates came from the Dam, also Ar-den Taylor. Mao Vonn Taylor surely has bad luck with that Olds-mobile; she and son Emmorn went to Richfield and on the way home hit a big deer which stopped them, she got out to Investigate and finding a big puddle of water in front of the car figured her radiator was ruined but upon examination found it intact, the deer got up and hobbled away before she could examine Us radiator. Had a nice letter from Cle-via Mclnelly in California, she is still caring for the old German lady who don't speak English and Clcvla still don't speak German so they don't waste time talking and that leaves Clevia time to do that beautiful handwork. Almost forgot that our kids. LaVee and Eddie Neely coming homo from Greenrlver, they did not make it for Thanksgiving but came the day after and spent the weekend, they have them a new trailer house and arc thrilled pink. Some of my folks, Mother, Emma, and Neils Little came Sunday afternoon but missed LaVee and Eddie, Nells still got his cherry pie though. I'm thankful there Is a long weekend after' Thanksgiving Day; It gives you time to get your wind and your thankful prayers to say.. |
