Show Escalanle Chit Chat 2y FAY ALVEY We've had some really cool nights which reminds us that Fall is close. It's such a busy time of year don't know how anyone finds time to make news or write it down either. We may be overdoing this bottling as our eight year old son had a bottle and was digging in an ant bed, wo asked what in the world he was doing and he answered, "I'm going to bottle some of these ants, there are just hundreds going to waste!" Some of the sick are better,. Martha Twitchell came out of her operation just fine, and came home Sunday; she had surgery in" Richfield so she could be with her two daughters, Deann and Beth, the latter, Mrs. Rotis Coleman has a baby boy that we didn't hear about until recently. Elise Porter returned home reporting that her daughter Shirley, Mrs Max Porter, came' through her operation in good shape; Mrs. Gurena Robinson is in Richfield with her daughter, Mrs. Kay Staples who is in bed with a heart ailment and in serious condition. Some of our people took time off to attend the Ice Follies at Salt Lake City; three couples, the Layton, Ray and Wilford Griffins. Mr. and Mrs. Clarcn Griffin made a business trip to Provo and were gone so long their folks were worried about them but they finally made it back ok. Mr. and Mrs. Maltland Spencer have a granddaughter born to the Lael Spencers of Provo, their boy Darrel is here with his grandparents and is thrilled to have a black headed sister; Mait and Nelda made a trip to Richfield Saturday to meet El-. there Alvey who was coming back from seeing her doctor in Salt Lake. The Robert Listons and their mother Alberta have made business trips to Richfield and Cedar City, Louise plans to attend school in Cedar this winter to qualify as a kindergarten teacher. Gerald Haycock, son of Spence, is teaching in the Roosevelt High School at Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Spencer made a trip to Joseph to attend funeral services for Ru-la's sister-in-law's father. Earnel Porter, who has been living in Ogden with his sister came home for a visit and stayed at the Joe Schow home, it really seemed good to see Earnel back in his old place in the South ward; when he leaves here he plans to go to San Diego to visit his brother Worth. Leanna Deuel went to Pangultch to take Vera (Ml-lie) Roundy and her" daughter Debbie to have Debbie's tonsils out, she got along fine. The George Spencer home has had visitors: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Arlaugh and family of Pacl-oma, Calif., the Mrs. is George's youngest daughter, Verl. Another daughter, Mel- ba Parry of Bountiful was also there. Dr. and Mrs. Leon Cowles and family of Portland, Oregon are here visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Cowles and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Griffin; Leon is a Dentist and both he and Beth look healthy and happy. They have dug the High School lawn all up and moved it, that was the only way to keep folks off the grass. Some of the streets are being oiled, the one built for Paul Steed a logging road and the one coming from it past Andrew Spencer's to the main highway, also the one past the "High School and North Ward church. If any of you farmers out in these East fields find a straw hat it belongs to Marion Woolsey, he had a night water turn recently and fell in the ditch head first losing his hatf he would appreciate getting it back, even if it won't do for a head covering he can use it for a hen's nest. Sopha Schurtz has gone off on another vacation, her son Gam and wife from Ely, Nevada came and got her and took her with them to Kansas to visit Mrs. Gam's mother. Speakers in meeting Sunday were North Ward, Chase Shurtz, and Desmond Twitchell of Cannonville and Bill Griffin sang; in the South Ward Usher and Vernon Spencer done the talking, and Jeanie Haws, daughter of Dee, and Gloria Bailey, daughter of Gail, played a piano duet. Oh, yes, the South ward Relief Society was reorganized; Elda Haws was released as President, with Ila Alvey and Gurena Robinson as counselors and Thelda Webster as secretary. Ila Alvey was put in President, with Retha Shurtz and Erma Gates counselors and Ruth Alvey as secretary; both Elda and Ila spoke briefly. Last week I missed the babies who were named, they were: son of the Glover Smiths, ana daughters of the Lyncoln Ly-mans and Kent Mclnellys. The Billle Barkers have had visitors: his brother Dean and wife and a sister, A Stake Welfare meeting was held Sunday in the North ward chapel with all wards represented. Dale Marsh took care of Wilford Griffin's Service Station while the Griffins attended the Ice Follies. The Randall Lymans have been to California to visit their children Dick and Rose Mary, they took their two youngest children and really had a time sightseeing and visiting Disney Land, The Lymans got a letter from Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin Burhop of Thernsville, Wisconsin, these folks visited here recently and went down the desert with McKay Bailey as a guide taking pictures and studying the country; they sent (continued inside) ESCALANTE back a newspaper clipping from their local paper describing where they had been and the beautiful scenery our country has. This man travels all over showing slides and giving lectures on different localities and he gathered material for one on this part of the globe. Mr. and Mrs. Smith Alvey and family, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Alvey and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gaden Gates and Dean, and Spence Haycock went to Boulder to the home of the Burns Ormonds for chicken supper, the LaFay Colemans were also present. Mr. and Mrs. LaVan Bauer of Cedar City were weekend visitors at the Daniel Wilcock home. Mrs. Sylvan Graff from Santa Clara' was here to church Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Zenz got word to come to Oregon and get the step-father of Mr. Zenz, he is 81 years old and unable to care for himself. The local DUP was reorganized .with Meletta Cottam as Captain, Elizabeth Ann (Ban) Porter as first vice, and Lena Rollins as 2nd vice, LaVern Woolsey stayed as secretary. Did you ever have a mean feeling like this? The day had been hot and hectic, he was tired mean and cross, things had gone wrong and worst of all he had been bawled out by the Boss; as he entered his gate he gave it a slam, then kicked and cursed the hound, he stomped in the house and muttered as he angrily glared around," "If that woman hasn't got dinner on I'll tell her off on sight, and jf she has, why blast her hide, I won't eat a single bite." |
