Show Escalante Chit Chat ' I ''ay Alvey We've had some real spring days here complete with song birds and In. sects; then It clouded up but the rain missed us. Mr. and Mrs. Danny Pollock and son Danny Joe spent a day or two at tho Hode Alvey home, then returned to'thelr jobs out In that Moab Country. The Barton Deuels made a business trip to Provo. Reed Jepson and partners went to California on business Mrs. Reed Jepson helped her soh' Dane entertain his classmates at a birthday party Feb. 14th. Mrs. Hortense Munson went to Kearns to see hor .new grandson born to Mr. and Mrs. Hal J. Woolsey. The Lorln Cottams received word that their daughter, Rhea had given birth to her seventh son, she has one daughter. Mr and Mrs John E. Davls.have returned home after visiting their children up North. MIna Porter had a bad eye Infection and took some shots and medicine which caused her to break tout with hlve3 so thick she was practically one big hive; she had to be hospitalized in Pangultch. Both Relief Societies held their work and business meetings, working o n quilts,- trays, pillowslips etc.. The North ward had the outlined lesson on cheese presented by La Vern Woolsey, then Alice Bailey and Ruby Osborne told of the cheese making on the Ranches In 'early days. Ruby told of the first creamery here operated by her father, Dell Twitchell. Both wards put on Boy Scout banquets separately; the Scouts put on the programs and had on display their handicraft, there, was everything froni stamp and coin collections to wild life displays ; The whole community vas shocked and saddened by the death of Lester Baker of Boulder; he has so many friends and relatives here; his wife, Flora,-Is a local girl, daughter of William Mitchell. Mr, and Mr3. Verge Spencer brought their baby home from the hospital in Salt Lake City, then had to rush It to the Pangultch hospital; It is In critical condition. -i i D.U.P. meeting was held at the D.U.I home Thursday afternoon, 20 of the Daughters were present. Lola R. Zenz gave the lesson; Maletta S. Cottam read a History of her . father, Moroni 'Shurtz, and Jane Round'y read "one of her brother-in-law, Myron Shurtz, first husband of her late sister, Sade Larson. Jano also displayed a clever way to preserve little trinkets that you can't throw away because they have a story and memories. She had 6overed a piece of plywood with patching cement, then stuck these little articles on it, Lunch of soup, and crackerfe, hot chocolate, cherry pie and homemade Ice cream was served by Martha and Rhoda Davis, Alice Bailey and Sarlah Alvey. LaVern Woolsey Btayed with tho Thompson children until the paro'nts returned. Mrs. LaVern R. George was selected as the 1957 Valentine of the year.,Her picture and a write up came out in Dan Valentine's column Valentine's day In the Salt Lake Tribune. The article described the 1 many fine 1 character trails of Mrs. George and we are proud that she Is a member of our community. Usually when, a women marries she loses her identity, is just known as the wlfo of some old Coot; but not Mrs. George, in. fact her husband Very seldom got honorable 'mention, but we knew him to be a fine man; he used to run sheep, he was also a Bishop and served aS County assessor for years, he was a patient and long suffering man, Leslie George. . The South Ward invited the North Ward up Sunday to hear their returned missionary Elder Blake Dee Robinson, Thpy had opening exercises, Joy Woolsey played an organ solo, then Bishop Munson told Elder Robinson he could take up the rest of tho time which he did. Ho told some Interesting things about tho customs, habits and country of Norway. He had some difficulty remembering some of tho English words after talking Norwegian for bettor than two years. We are glad to have him back home. Deloa Porter has gone back to Idaho where she will attend school to become a check writer. Sarlah Alvey (my mother In law) has gone on vacation; she plans to visit her sister, Jenny Gled-hill In Provo, then go to Roy to stay with Ray L. and Wife, then' come back to Salt Lake to her granddaughter's, Franklo Freeman, and Franklo's mother Wanda Hansen- from Richland, Wn. will meet her there. Tho news next week might bo a little scarce as, she has been helping to round It up. Ruby Craycraft from Richfield has been here visiting her mother Amanda Mitchell. Kay Little (my brother) camo over today to help Slim line up a post holo digger; he has had several fellows helping him but It still wouldn't work,- Kay said they had some gadget on backwards. Spent Thursday ovenlng at the Ray Griffin homo doing hair and visiting, Ray Is getting along prot ty well. They told me about the folks who used to live here that come to see them up to Salt Lake City; they lived with Earnest and Mary Griffin, Edith ' Griffin also' lives with them, and all three work. They said Earnest and Mary look, quite different from what they, did when they lived -here and raised, chickens. .Dale Jolley has his own Barber shop and hires help. Mr. and Mrs. Thoron Griffin from Ruby's Inn came over here and visited an afternoon! last; week. ' ' g |
