Show Escalante Chit Chat Still no rain but we have ordered some. We are happy to report that Mrs. Ruth Wilcox Is better, she was out to church Sunday; Mike Schow has had his operation and is getting around like a young kid. Aunt Susan Heaps is still in Panguitch at the home of her daugher Afton Church, and under the watchful eye of Dr. Duggins, they still don't know when she can como home. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cordon have taken over the Cafe owned by Wllford Griffin and plan to be ready for business on the 24th. Mr. and Mrs. Will R. Porter are back home, their grandson, Kenneth Carlton and family brought them home; they have been to Yellowstone Park and Zion Canyon, and since they got home have been fishing at the Barker. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Allen of Provo are here visiting her people Letha Schow and the Porters: Clayton, Andrew and' Will R., she is their sister Myrtle. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Schow of Salt Lake City came for their children who have been staying with Aunt Al Porter, and of course they visited his parents, the Bish Schows. Hugh Bailey is back home after working up North for some time. Sopha Schurtzand Alden Moyes are chuck full of business, they went to Panguitch one day arid to Richfield the next, they said it was to see about getting some duplicate deeds that Sopha had destroyed when their house burned some time ago. Mr. and Mrs, Charley Bailey and Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Gates had business in Richfield about the time of the races, so did the Neil Listons and Louise, the Liston's daughter, Ja-lene Pollock and son have been here. Mr. and Mrs. Billic Davis went to Richfield, they picked up their daughter, Leda Mae Foster in Tropic and took her to the dentist. Mr. and Mrs. -Kay Sorenson of Orem came for their daughter who was staying with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Morris Shirts. Mrs. Rula Spencer, the wife of Vernon, has returned from "" summer school, she is 'pre?" pared now to teach the rising generation. William Mitchell accompanied his daughter Flora Baker to Panguitch to take her little boy who had just had his tonsils out, she was worried about him but he was all right. Mrs. Ethyl Pollock has two of her grandchildren staying with her, a boy and a girl belonging to her daughter Co-lee of Granger. Mr. and Mrs. Hilo Boyce also have a grandson and daughter with them, they belong to their daughter Thelma of Ogden. Mr. and Mrs. Lenza Wilson have had a visit from their nephew, Lt. Charles R. Wilson who just recently graduated from the Air Force, in Texas; his mother came from California for the exercises. He is a navigator, bombardier, and has a license for both military and civilian, he Is to be stationed now In Great Falls, Montana. -We are proud to claim Charles as one of our Escalante boys as he has really progressed; he was accompanied here by his wife and toddling daughter, Terl Lyn. His brother, Russel. Wilson enlisted in the Army and is taking basic training in Camp Carson, Colo. Kate Porter's daughter, Janet went back to Wyoming with her Aunt and Uncle, the Hardy Woolseys, she plans on staying until school starts. The John Mclnellys have had visitors; two of their nephews, Burse n Barker and Ga-lord M. Barker of Phoenix, Arizona, these boys are sons of Willard and, Clara Barker who used to live here. The Mclnellys also had their son Ber-nell, his wife and family and a sister-in-law and her family of Martinez, California. Mrs. Iva Beddo of Salt Lake City is visiting here at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, the Orland Porters, she is also a sister of Alice Bailey and Ray Shurtz. The town was really shook up over news of the death of Prudencio Zabala (Joe' Pru-denc), he was in the Veter-, ans Hospital in Salt Lake City K, ' . , t , " and no ono here had heard from him for awhile so Thur-man Spencer called and found that, he had died June 30th and buried the next day in i I I the Veterans plot of the City Cemetery. Arrangements had been made for him to be brought back here for burial by the American Legion; he didn't have any relatives but this town is full of his friends. Claron Griffin made a business trip to Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Porter and the Berdell Thompsons of Bountiful are here" visiting relatives and fishing. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Griffin received word that their- granddaughter, Loretta, daughter of the Charley Griffins of Hurricane is engaged to be married to James Speas of Richmond, Va.; they plan a December wedding. Mrs. Faun Thompson and children went to Eph-raim for a short visit; they left Reed here to watch for forest fires and lake care of things. Howard Prince of the Mammoth Fish Hatchery came over to bring some fish for the Barker Reservoir and he called on his sister, Mrs. Melvin Alvey. The Beryl Shurtz home has had visitors; Mr. and Mrs. Greaux of Bountiful, and Mr; and Mrs. Blake Schow of Salt Lake City, the ladies are Beryl's two sisters, Vivian and Betty. The Mike Schows and Charley Baileys have had their kids, Ken and Helen Schow here for a visit, then they went to Hawaii to meet their daughter, Enid who has filled a mission tohe Islands and is coming home, Erma Gates is' tending their kids. Mr. and Mrs. Vernile Griffin and family were visiting relatives and friends here. Mrs. Dora 'Henderson of Salt Lake City is here, her son Ernest and family of Henrieville came over to join in the visit. Berlin Osborn and some members of his family made a business trip to Salt Lake City. The Cliff Reynolds home has had guests, Mr. and. Mrs. Flea-harty of Las Vegas, and their son Jim of Kanab; Jim took Cliff home with him to try the change of climate for his" health. Mr. and Mrs. LaMar Rasmussen and charming daughter 5f Gunnison arevherc staying at Ruby's Motel, he bought McKlnley Morrel out In this country and is here looking after his interests. Mrs. Elise Porter and two daughters, Ann and Kathy, came for the 24th and Alvey reunion, Elise plans to go back to Bountiful and hold down a job until school starts. Ann has been in the hospital with a strep throat but is all better now. Lola Zenz is all banged up again, this time it is her head, she tried to fall out of an apricot tree and a big rough limb caught her. Mr, and Mrs. Lincoln Ly man are the proud parents of a baby girl, they have an older girl also. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coleman and family of Boulder were visitors at the Lorin Griffin home. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Woolsey and family of Kearns are visiting his par-'ents the Earl Woolseys, she Is the former La sea Munson.. Bernice Cluff of Sevier Valley and Lcona Lcavitt of Oregon are visiting at the Wayne Barney home, they are Ionna's sisters. Ada Lay has her daughter Dana here from Myton. Had some excitement Saturday night; Doyle Cottam's hay stack burned, about twenty four hundred bales also some of his fence and feed mangers, they managed to save the shed; they think it must have been set on as it started on the North end it was in that East field that he bought from Arden Woolsey. Mr. and Mrs. Delane Griffin have a house and yard full of company: her bi other Pud Porter and family, her sister Edith and husband (Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sharp), her sister Jackie and husband (Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jackson), her Uncle Varley Roe and daughter Carol, and his sister Ver-na Hall, all of California, and last but not least her Dad and Mother, the Lee Porters of Provo. The Grant McMullens have Mrs. McMullen's sister and her husband (Mr, and Mrs Jim Hatch) of Boise, Idaho, and Jimmy Hall of Arizona camo to bring Melvin home and stayed' to fish and visit. The assistant Ranger, Roy Daniels has his wife here now.
