Show LAUNCH VAST EFFORT FOR EUROPE'S YOUNG Eight American Relief Agencies Combine to Save 3,500,000 Children Death Menaces. Eight great relief organizations, working among and for every race and creed, have united under the name of the European Belief Council to coordinate co-ordinate child relief In Europe this winter. The Council will seek to provide pro-vide funds for 3,000,000 starving and dlsenjed children In Eastern nnd Central Cen-tral Europe and to administer thli relief economically. It consists of Herbert Hoover, chairman, chair-man, nnd Franklin K. I.nne. treasurer; treas-urer; Edgar Itlckard, representing the American Belief Administration; Dr. Livingston I'arrnnd, representing the American Itcd Cross; Felix Warburg, representing the Jewish Joint Distribution Distri-bution Committee; Wilbur K. Thomns representing tho American Friends' Service Committee ((Junkers) ; James A. rinhcrty, representing the Knights of Columbus; Dr. C. V. Hlbbard, representing repre-senting the Voting Men'a Clirlbtlan Association; As-sociation; Miss Sarah S. Lyon, representing repre-senting the Young Women's Christian Association; Dr. Arthur Brown, repre-renting repre-renting the Federal Council of Churches Church-es of Christ In America. It Is the purpose of the Council to rnl'e $33,000000, In an appeal centering center-ing nt the Christmas holidays, to the end that the desperate situation regarding re-garding child life may be met In every town nnd community of the nation, na-tion, it Is plannqd, local committees, representing nil tho co-operating agencies agen-cies will be formed to secure the vitally vi-tally necessary funds. Of tho amount sought, $23,000,000 will be used for basic food and $10,000,000 for medical service. For every one of these American dollars tho local governments and communities aided will furnish two dollars, In the form of transportation, labor, guards, clerical help, cosh contributions con-tributions untl such food supplies as are locally obtainable. No children recehe the free food except after medical tests showing them to be seriously seri-ously undernourished. The remaining $10,000,000 of the fund Is Just as urgently needed fur medical service to Hie children. The European Belief Council will do' much more than effect economies In the raising of the child saving fund. It will, with the Inspecting forces of eight great agencies, keep a constant eje on the administration of America's Amer-ica's merciful gift, In order that there sltnll be no wastage mid no tendency toward pauperization.
