The report on Maurine Schow is that there is not much change, they think one day she is better, then she's worse again; the doctors have taken several new tests but don't tell her folks the results; we are all still hoping and praying with them. Richard (Dick) Christiansen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard (Rich) Christiansen, of Escalante, is home after spending two years In the Air Force, he spent better than 1V4 years in Germany. He said he would like to go back over there and study music; he is very talent-id in that line. Alburn (Bobby) Griffin underwent surgery at the Panguitch hospital last week, he is back home and seens to be doing ok. LaMont Griffin met with an accident; he was helping George Hamilton change wheels on a binder and it fell on him. They were afraid he was completely crushed and rushed him to Panguitch but were relieved to find that he was just badly bruised; he is Robert (Bobby) Pratt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philo Pratt or Escalante, has returned home after spending two years in the Army. He spent eighteen months in Korea, and he does not care to go back. o back home now and able to milk the cows but he says that is an experience he will never forget, was never so embarrassed in his life, being a bachelor those nurses were quite a trial to him. Thell Barney also had an operation, two of them at one sitting; he felt mighty rugged for several days but is feeling better. His son Gerald came for the week end and visited his dad at the hospital; the fellows working with him, Parley Pratt, Vernon Griffin and Boyd Owens also came with him. Mr. and Mr3. Perry Leo Neal and three children from Cedar Hill, Texas are visiting at the Lorin Cottam home, it is their daughter Larene and family. Victor Cottam has had more company, two of his wife's brothers, Zola, Roundy (continued inside) ESCALANTE (continued from rage one) t his wife and three daughters from Chicago, Illinois, they used to live here and this is their first trip back for eight or ten years. They brought a 15 year old daughter and identical twin girls 11 years old, the only way they can tell the twins apart is one wears a little bigger shoe than her sister. Mr. Roundy taught school for years and now he has a good job doing research work for a big creamery in Chicago. The other brother, Emil Roundy brought his wife and son, they live in Cedar City now, spent about seven years in Shelly, Idaho and just recently moved back to Cedar. The Cottam's son Delmer will graduate from the BYU on the 16th of August; his folks will go up for the exercises. Bessie Cloward and daughter Judy of Richfield are visiting at the Will R. Porter home, she and their son Der-el are sort of making eyes at each other. Mrs. Talmage Taylor and children of Salt Lake have been visiting her parents, the Clyde Spencers; sho was quite sick and fears she will have to undergo a major operation. Her husband came for her, her name is Veneice. Mr. and Mrs. Kim Lay of Kearns were visitors at the Ada Lay home. Mrs. Ora Bell Welgle of Salt Lake City came to visit her parents, the'Vern Lymans, and to get her, two children, Johnny and Julia Ann who have spent most of the summer here. Mr. and Mrs. Kay Staples and daughter of Richfield are visiting at the Blake Robinson home; Mrs na. The District meeting of the Riding Club held July 31 was well attended and after the meeting the local club members served lunch at Arnold Alvey's Cafe. Mr. McCling gave the Riding Club $50.00, with which they, bought mutton, then the local members furnished what went with it and put on a big supper for all District members Saturday, August 3, it was well attended. The S. J. Alveys received word that their son Ray L. had been back to the doctor and he had put a walking bar on his cast, and told him to wear it another two weeks, so ho and his wife went on a trip to Colorado to visit relatives and plan on going on to Yellowstone Park. Guess that's one way to get a vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Balog, and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Swain and families, all of Payson, were visitors at the home of the ladies father, Tommy Alvey, they are his daughters Emma and Mary. Mrs. Wanda Munk and son Donald were also visitors at that home, she is Mrs. Alvey's daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Albert A. Hansen and son from Richfield made a short visit at the Lcn-za Wilson home, Mrs. Hansen is Zelma's sister. Charley Griffin and son of Hurricane arc visiting at the home of the Albert Griffins. Martha Griffin has her hand all bandaged up, about five weeks ago she broke a blood vessel in her arm and had a clot form, she says it'a getting better now. Why don't people tell me those things when they happen? The Cliff Reynolds received word that their son Dale who lives in Victorville, Calif, was chosen 2nd counselor to the Bishop. DeLoy Spencer and family have arrived to visit his parents, the Gam Spencers. Mr. and Mrs. Cline Spencer and some of their children are here on vacation at the home of Mrs. Spencer's par- 1 ents, Hillo Boise. Mr. and Mrs f Homer George and their ? youngest son came to bring i her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess J Barker home, they have been up" to Salt Lake City for two ? weeks for a family reunion; t all of their children live there I except Allen who has a Civil ? Service job in Texas, but ho j came up for the get-together, t The Billie Barkers have t been on another pleasure trip, 1 and this time they took their jj good neighbor Ada Lay along. jj They went to Grand Canyon i and stayed over night then t came back and visited the t Glen Canyon Dam site. Billie t was really excited about the I beautiful scenery they saw. jj Billie Davis went to Tropic to help the Al Fosters cut up J a beef, and to check on his 1 daughter Leda Mae who had jj one of her jaws slip out of joint; Dr. Mason said it was serious and needed special 2 treatment. Billie's friends J from Wisconsin are here stay- 3 ing with him. We asked their 1 names and he said he couldn't J even say them let alone spell J them, but he says they are ? good company as they waif on 2 themselves. Mrs, Reed Wool- J ey, Wilmirth is clerking in the j Davis Store. 3 While Russel Wilson was in 3 Missouri he met a fellow nam- .1 cd Alfred and told him what 3 a good country this was but 3 being from Missouri he had to 3 be shown so he came out, bag 3 and baggage and moved In 3 with Russel at the Ivan Willis 3 home. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne 3 Barney have gone on vacation, 3 don't know where but will get 3 the lowdown on them when j they get back, if they'll talk. 3 Reed Jepson and daughter 3 Karen Have gone to California 3 to the wedding of Reed's old- 3 est boy; his partner Paul Hun- 3 ter has his wife out here on a 3 visit. Mr. and Mrs. Grant JJ (Cook) Liston have gone to JJ Las Vegas to look for a house, j they plan on living there this jj winter. More people are star- jj ving out of here all the time; jj if they keep on there won't be 2 enough to make news. That strip of road up in the upper Valley has at last been completed and sold, so you folks who want to see a beautiful, piece of road just roll your wheels and your eyes along that. Mrs. Rulon Jolly is visiting her parents, the Marias JIalls. The "Cookerettes" attended the annual 4-H outing at Duck Creek last weekend; Mrs., Glover Smith went as chaperone, and they reported having had a good time. Club members include Diann McMullen, president Jo Osborne, vice president; Ann Porter, secretary; Effie Kay Spencer, chorister; Jeanle Haws, Ann Griffin, Dot Alvey, Beth Robinson, and Bonnie Spencer. Their group is the only one to go to Duck Creek this season. The Os-myn Deuels of Hatch came t oyer seeking apricots, they were not hard to find but Os-myn thought they were rather hard to pick; thoy report thai 1 Barton Deuel is still in Wyoming working on construction and there has already been a three inch snow fall. |
