Large appropriations have been made mainly for schools and for a back-log of building needs. Blessed ''with n long-time accumulation of surplus funds nnd n daring 'hopefulness, this session has appropriated more money than it has provided In 'additional revenues. It is fine to avoid new taios; but the state's economy had better continue to expand. Tlie optomlsts are surely looking at the industrial sec-lions of the state, not at(the agricultural areas. , ' At. ail eveoti, my own .participation in this osslon of the legislature has been a great experience. When I return home, as I shall do after a short trip lOTiSeatUo, X will bo happy to tell you, either singly or in groups, all I can about activities here as I saw them. Suspense still dominates the stoTy of the Boulder', rood- When tlie Highway Commission's master bill finally reached the House, nil new routes had been eliminated except accesM Jxxadu -to Glen Canyon anil Flaming Gorge dam-sites, Salt Lake City streets, and one or two short pieces of road on which the. State had already HptMit money, one of which was the Teasdale to G rover road. lleprWiitatlvea Edna' Cazltr of Junb and' lleber Bennlon of Duchesne each attempted to amend the bill to allow changes In their counties. ,Both utterapts. failed. 'Then I arose nnd made a brief plea to continue tho road from Grover,' to Boulder. On .tlie previous day I had spoken about tho' needs for n road alt through Garfield from Bryce to Torrey. Surprisingly enough, my motion carried, by n majority of the membersof both political partlcsj. Congratulatlourt overwhelmed me. (I-think it was the hand ot Providence acting In behalf of all of as down there.) Some who Voted against my motion explained to me later that they did 1 only because of' erupleis opening (lie bill for amendments. Tlie bill as amended still has to be passed by the, Senate. We have been doing a. pretty thorough Job of lobbying and liavo .strong hopes thai all will be well with It.. I wish to congratulate the pan-(tultch lilgh School and Coach.
