Show Escalante Chit Chat The weather stays nice in the day time, if the wind don't blow, the nights are quite cool, but we haven't had any storm. ' There are quite a number of folks with colds, they think it is summer and go without a wrap and the air is cold. Mrs. Lillie Baker went from the hospital to the home of her daughter in Panguitch, Vonda Pollock; the other parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Pollock, went from here over thee for Thanksgiving dinner. Charley Bailey had his eye operated on Monday, 24th in Salt Lake City, they figured the operation was a success and he was to stay in the hospital for ten days. Clive Bailey came home much improved after his treatments, he is to go back again later, his daughter Connie and her family, the Alfred Jeppsons of California, are here visiting. Maud and Cliff Reynolds had their house full of folks for Thanksgiving, their son Glade and family of Richfield, Lark and family of Kanab, daughter Rhoda and husband Dewane Barney of Monroe, and Dale'j wife and two babies, she is just waiting until she can join Dale in France. Oh yes and the Burns Orm-onds and family of Boulder ate dinner with them on Thanksgiving. Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Barker and family of Duchesne spent the holiday at the Dee Haws home, then they took Elvin s-mother, J, B. up to Salt Lake City to visit her daughter Elsie. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Shirts went to Orem to eat turkey with daughter Nadene and family, the Kay Sorensons, they left Carol Joy here to feed tho cats and look after things. Some how Neta got a front tooth knocked out and Morris felt w guilty that he took her to Spanish Fork to Dr. Lars Peterson and had the damage repaired, that's probably all Neta will get for Christmas. Lars Petersen camo through here going and coming from that Boulder country where he was gathering cattle, and of course while here visited his mother, Amanda Mitchell and other relatives. William Mitchell got word that his brother Preston died after a brain operation, thev plan to attend the funeral services. Mr. and Mrs. Gam Cray-craft of Richfield were Thanksgiving visitors at the William Mitchell home, that is Amanda's daughter Ruby and husband. The local HOLE-IN-THE-ROCK chapter of the SUP put on a SMOKER here last week with Roland Porter in charge of events, he supervised a drill done by the girls, then there was boxing, tumbling, and wrestling. An item missed last week was the new granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Cottam, born to Rhea Rush of LaMesa, California, this last addition makes a grand total of two girls and seven boys. Mr. and Mrs. Orland (Whitey) Porter and Mr. and Mrs. Claron Griffin made a business trip to Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Beu-mont Griffin went to Salt Lake City for Thanksgiving to spend the holiday with her twin sister and her family. Mr. and Mrs. George Ikaard and family of Richfield spent the holiday with her parents, the Wayne Barneys here. Mr. and Mrs.- Van Bauer and family of Cedar City were visitors at the Daniel Wilcock home. Mr. and Mrs. Kay Staples and daughter, and Rhoda Robinson and her big blond Boy Friend spent the holiday at the Blake Robinson home. Mrs. Minnie Davis went to Panguitch to take her daughter, Leda Mae Foster and infant son to have tho doctor check the baby, they returned the samo day. Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Alvey of Roy were holiday visitors with their parents, the S. J. Alveys. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Peterson and family of Logan spent several days here with her mother, Ann S. Alvey, getting things fixed for 'the winter, (Continued inside) f. $ ESCALANTE they all went to Tropic for ' Thanksgiving dinner with the Royal Alveys, then Sunday they left for Logan taking Aunt Annie to visit for awhile. Wells Mclnelly and sister Mary came from Logan, and Wells took his wife and children back, they had been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Cowles. Marjorle Spencer also came from Logan to be with hor family. Mr. and Mrs, Vernon Dean Itoundy and daughter came from Emery bounty where he is teaching, to spend the holiday at the Ot-to Roundy home. Word was received here of the death of Lloyd Baker of Green River, he was a son of Gene Baker, born and raised here, he is a nephew of Mrs. Ruth Wilcox. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Willis and family went to Cannon-ville to have dinner with Nel-da's parents, the Jasper Hendersons, then their married son Ellwood and family came for the weekend, they went to Hurricane for dinner with her folks, the Leo Munsons. Mr. and Mrs. Usher Spencer went to Provo to spend the holiday with their daughter Patsy and family, the Garl Cottams. Elise Porter expected all of her children home so cooked a big turkey with all of the trimmings and none of them showed up except the ones who live here. Looked like all of the college kids came home for Thanksgiving with their folks. The Randell Lymans had all of their kids home for Thanksgiving including their new son-in-law, Reldon Palmer ; Gwert and the girls gave Rose Mary a shower at the family home on Friday following Thanksgiving. Rosie stayed here to visit "awhile and her husband returned to his job. My folks, Mother, Kay and Neils Little came over and had dinner with us Friday and they had to leave before we got our visiting all done so they took me and son Jim back to the Ranch where we stayed until Sunday, then Neils brought us home as he went back to Tooele where he has a job. The local FFA sold chances on a turkey before Thanksgiving and also had a turkey shoot; Grant McMullen got the one chances were sold on and Gene Griffin, the barber, got the one for being the best shot; the Harvest Ball Thanksgiving night was also put on by the FFA with a Queen and attendants. Clara McMullen's mother, Mrs. Ramsay is hero for a visit. Those local surveyors who were transferred to Nevada all came home for the holiday and LaVern Griffin took his family back with him as did also Bobby Pratt, missed Boyd Owens last week, he is one of them. Betty Alvey took her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Roundy up to Salt Lake for the weekend. The local High School have cast and are preparing a three act play to be presented as part of the Christmas entertainment, Berlin Osborn Is the director. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Porter spent the weekend here with parents, the Gail Baileys' and Roland Porters. The Sacrament meeting Sunday in the South ward was under the direction of Gall Bailey, he used his whole family including his mother-in-law Amanda Mitchell; Terrill played an accordian solo, Gloria sang and played her uke, and Sandra played an organ solo. Reva and Amanda told of their trip to Hawaii, and Gail said he was not going to tell what he done while they were gone. In, the North ward the program was put on by the Genealogical Committee with the chairman, D. H. Cowles, in charge and he gave a talk, then Jean, Mrs. Lewis Griffin sang a song, and a talk was given by Herman Pollock of Tropic. Mrs. Leo Wilson made a trip to Panguitch to meet the Stork. Sopha Schurtz celebrated her birthday anniversary on December 1st at her home with the help of some friends, they were: Sariah Alvey, Thel-da Webster, Iris Porter, Uzell Cottam and Shirley. Thelda Webster and Bill spent Thanks' giving in Salt Lake with their daughters. John Mclnelly was taken to the Panguitch h'spl-tal. 'Most every paper you pick up you read of some slick thief who has stolen things of value and caused 'the owner grief ; to have valuable possessions really does not pay, if you haven't go It you can't lose it, "Blessed be Nothing" I say. |
