Show missionary writes W rites of his experiences atlanta georgia july 14 1921 editor new 4 just a note to thank you for your splendid paper it Is a great comfort to a missionary that la Is twenty seven li hundred undred miles from home it also serves as a tract to our investigators who are interested in the west you might inight also he be interested in hea hearing some of my experiences in the south during tile he last nixie nine n months lot I 1 up until two weeks ago I 1 have spent in south georgia most of rity my time was spent in III tile the section of the country where sherman a artely aminy famous during the civil war marched through with old people who can call tell all about shermans Sher mans men coming and stealing all their food and burning their homes I 1 have stayed in ili homes that were full ot of bullet holes received during the civil war the p people eople have not ad advanced very much since then in some sections I 1 have been in homes where the spinning inning hp wheel was still in use old men have shown tile me their guns with which they defended atlanta the capitol of tile the state against the north you s see ee there are many things of historic interest her in fit the south my companion ind and I 1 had wonderful success in that part of georgia in ili the small smaill town of thrift most of tile the townspeople are arc our friends and investigators vesti gators and in june they decided to give us its a barbecue and there we could preach to the people that came six goats were donated by friends and they were barbecued all night and tended to by an ail old darkie who knew just how to cook them nice and tender bende the next day sunday over three thre hundred people came to the eouse fi 61 ase we then expounded th gospel to them lor for almost nn an hour and I 1 a halt half atter after which came the food which Was barbecued goat tried fried chicken pl pie cake and many other f fine ina i things there was plenty tor for all and everything came off in fine shape hape we made many friends that day my companion and I 1 baptised baptized sed twenty three people between christmas dav land june tile the fourth which was one fourth of the baptisms of the georgia conference I 1 during that time we made i many iriny friends and opened many I 1 hoines boynes I 1 nm ant now in III north georgia climbing hills bills ind trying to make friends ind and pr rali the gospel north georgia Is not i a very fruitful field and we do not meet as much success as we lid in the south end of the state sunday we sire are going to hold a baptising baptizing bap wo we have ae six tx people ready tor for baptism and a fw few igliore diore which we hope to get soon the hie attitude odthe people i is hanging and they ire are hardly as bitter against its now as they were several beai deais s ago I 1 enjoy my work very ciuch and I 1 meet people who inquire hout about k G gunil giann also about elder lillywhite elder 0 G bargeron nar geron elder joel harlsey and others who were i in fit tills his country years ago the cotton crop Is poor on oil account of 0 tile the ball weevil which in ili time is going to break the southern farmer fanner the heat Is also what I 1 would call terrible ind and I 1 will be glad when the itsinie time comes again for me to see what snow looks like Mormon mormonism isra Is s gaining in leaps and bounds and the elders are having haing much success everywhere 1 eryn ery here where I 1 thank you again tor for the N e Ws bour fi lepul aud and dr brother effii il A HORACE HORACD MANN |
