Show SOIL CONSERVATION By Norman I. Hill Last week's report of snow on tho Wldtsoo-Escalante was based on average snow measurements only. The April" 1 report of the Federal State Cooperative Snow Survey says that "tlx snow pack on the East Fork of the Sevier River and Escalante River has Increased from 20 to 50 of average since tho first of March. Tho current snow pack is about one-third more than It was a year ago," The main fork of the Sevier River la reported as being near or above average for the 1942-51 period. Holdover storage in 14 reservoirs In the state Is 66 of capacity as against 54 average for 1942-51. The water outlook has considerably Improved since March 1. The Crort Brothers Reservoir at the Bear Valley Ranch was completed last week, except for the bentonlte sealing layer which will be placed In the very near future. This overnight storage pond is located Just below the McEwen Canal and will be an excellent pond, serving to provide more beneficial use of water. The Parla River SCD board elected Thorley Johnson of Hen-rleville as chairman In a meeting two weeks ago. He replaces Jasper Henderson of Cannonvllle, who has served well as chairman and remains as an active member of the board. The board will meet again Friday night to further discuss problems In the district. The Tropic Irrigation Co. has begun a series of small construction Jobs Including new turnouts and flumes, flume repairs and also a short section of canal lining. Water has always been of teal concern to them and with the anticipated shortage of water this coming season they are making every effort to get their system In good condition. |
