Show SOIL CONSERVATION By Dale Webber Earl Allen and his son Sam of Pangultch have recently com-pleted a revision of their old soil and water conservation plsn that was originally written In 1946. Technical help was furnished . through the Upper Sevier SCI). Walt Rumsey, Range Specialist with the SCS from Richfield, worked with Mr. Allen on the revision. The purpose of a soil, water and plant conservation plan Is to .makuVach acre of land produce to Its capacity and at the same time maintain or Improve our baste resource, the soil, An aerial photograph of Al' len's Casto ranch was used as a base for planning. All pertinent Information cuch as soil types, range sites, range condition, fences, Irrigation ditches, and uther information was put on the map. Using this information the farmer and technician can decide on the consenutlon practices needed to improve the farm or ranch. These decisions are also recorded so that they can be referred to from time ,o time, AMen's conservation plan In dudea such practices as range and pasture seeding!, proper uia of range forage, Improved water application and brush ... control. Many Improvements have already been made on the ranch, some of them Include land leveling, on fifty seven acres, and the construction of several miles of fence. A copy of the conservation plan, along with the aerial planning photograph, hag been given to Mr. Alien and Sam so that they can refer to It la tho future. |
