A Latin writer, Avlcenna, Is quoted to show that about tho year 1600 It was known that thoro was somo deflnlto connection betwoon rata and plaguo. In more recent years It has been a matter of common observation In India that In times of plaguo a largo number of dead rats aro found. And those aro found to contain tho plague bacilli In abundance In 1898 SI-moml SI-moml expressed tho view that In tho majority of cases tho plaguo was conveyed con-veyed from tho rat to man through tho agoncy of the flea. Experiments which he trlod with fleas from rats dead of tho plaguo showed how this Is possible. OUior exporlmentors havo obtained similar results, whllo others havo been lod to doubt Slmond's generalization. |
