Show commercial club stages vaudeville ile i the vaudeville performance staged I 1 at the liberty theatre yesterday atter aate rr noon and last evening w wag as a splendid success A packed house witnessed witness witnessed eA the evening performance which waa wai put on in such a splendid manner chaj tha one would almost imagine he was tending a vaudeville performance at 1 the Orph orpheum eura or pantages at salt laka city the show opened with a most beautiful scene enacted by sixteen young ladles eight of whom were dressed as sailor laddies and eight lasses at the back of the stage was a large boats boat rocking on the waters in which were seated the sailors and their best girls girla the ladles ladies shading themselves with parasols all were singing miss MASS edith nelson leading in the solo at the front of the stage the girls also entertained in fancy dancing and chorus singing those dressed as sailors were misses clara watkins connie hubbard Alfria miriam rn horsley virginia luke erma white laura fishburn may jensen and veda mason the lasses were misses thelma jensen irene and ilene bunot doris boothe erma valentine priscilla and edith nelson and phyllis petersen the second number oriental echoes was a troop ot of five hawaiian musicians who entertained with string music and singing they were clever entertainers and received several en cores the next scene was that of an expert lock breaker stager by walter chrysler the electrician assisted by frank mr chrysler was handcuffed and locked with chains and in an instant he reed freed himself finally he was chained hand and toot foot and nailed in a strong box and in one minute appeared on the stage free from all shackles the next scene was the dreamers the act beautiful As the curtain rose miss doris both attired and seated on a large silver halt half moon descended from the top ol of the stage down through the scenes the large moon swinging to and fro as it neared the cent cente erot the asage As she gradually lowered her sweet voice rang out clearly in the solo 1 I love you the scene was most beautiful miss aliss boothe in her pleasing personality and with her wonderful voice adding charm to the already pleasing picture the devil and tom walker came next with william byrne the popular as the main attraction bill was a big uncle tom and was moved with compassion as little eva represented by marion madsen i entered crying tor for a dress he p promised her the new dress but later found himself lacking the four bones cliff rogers as aa a young coon sport showed up and tom tried to make him dig up the tour four bones claiming the money on a debt tom had to kill cliff to get the money and in so doing was waa turned over to th the law arid and to the influence of the devil however the little girl got her new dress while in ane electric chair to pay the penalty the red devil showed up to claim toms soul as his own harry M ia frank franic and rees wight assisted by mrs frank at the piano put on a real pantages vaudeville stunt which I 1 kept the large audience in an uproar of laughter their make ups were immense and their work very clever bever they made a real hit in their iong ong 0 mr air galligher and oh mr air sheen following this mrs frank rendered a solo at the piano and harry and rees gave their conception of the king tut dance as man anil and lady in screaming attire As vaudeville artists they cant be beat they were strong on drawing applause ithe the hawaiian musicians entertained again with their sweet music and singing then came mystic india the closing ig number staged by joseph cook and his daughter helen cook of corinne assisted by a number of local people eople p the young lady was hypnotized and after being blindfolded with h her er arm resting on a broom the box upon U on which she stood was removed and her feet raised to the level of her head and here she floated in midair ahoon was passed over her body to show that there were no wires sustaining it her later a large colored flag was opened and held in front of her above aboy ethe the bottom of the stage from he j po position in the air the young lady i from aena id the flag while the space surrounding the tha flag on all sides was watched by the audience how she got away was the mystery mr cook has a two hour show which he Is gi various towns of the county frank acted as stage director and a large orchestra directed direct ec by prof E D marin mann furnished the music the orchestra did splendid work and added much to the presentation of the play the entertainers and all who assisted in making the annual club show the grand success that tha it ft was are to be commended for their worthy effort |
