Show CEMENT DIPPING TANK. Can Be Cheaply Built and Is Better Than One of Planking. An excellent dipping tank can be mado of cement. It can bo built as cheap or cheaper than with boards nnd Is much more durable. Wo would advise all who aro contemplating tanking tank-ing nny articles of cement, whether It be tanks, poBts, sidewalks or anything elso to send to tho secrctnry of agriculture, agri-culture, Wnshlngton, for fnrmer's bulletin bul-letin No. 23G. Dig tho holo for the cement dipping dip-ping tank eight Inches longer nnd wider than the Interior of tho tank Is to be. Tho end of tho tank from which tho anlmnls will make their exit should bo slanting, as shown nt A in tho drawing. After the hole has been dug, mix tho mortar at, tho rato of one pnrt cement to threo parts sand. Fill In the bottom of the holo with n smooth layer, four Inches thick. Leave this till It has dried sufllclcntly to hold up a man. Then make a box out of Inch lumber thnt Is eight Inches narrower and four Inches shorter thnn tho Interior of tho hole. This box Sectional View of Dipping Tank. ihould bo used lu making tho three perpendllulur sides of the tnnk, but lie slanting sldu should be left open :o be built after tho other threo walls :ave dried. When this box Is set Into .lie holo, It will leave four Inches on ilther side of thu sides and four Inches m tho perpendicular end of tho box uul the walls. Fill lu tho mortar In this opening and leave till It has suf-llclently suf-llclently dried to remove tho box. I'hen the floor on the slant should bo made. Start nt tho bottom and put on i layer of cenuyit four Inches thick, Ulnwlng It to reach six Inches upward on tho Incline. At tho top of this layer, six Inches wide, place n piece of 2x2 so that It will extend ono Inch nbove tho surface of tho .cement. Then put another layer of cement six Inches wide above this In tho slant, finishing with another 2x2. Contluuo this till tho entire Incline hns been covered. It Is necessary to have tho 2x2s Imbedded In the cement to nf-ford nf-ford n foothold for the animal when It attempts to como out of tho tnnk, as renient is vory slippery. In some of the western states, where the soil Is naturally dry and very hard, n great many make dipping tun Us by simply plastering the Interior wuIIb of dirt with two or threo coats of cement. Such n method of construction con-struction will answer tho purpose when none hut hogs and sheep aro to bo dipped, but for thu larger animals, there Ib danger of the cement being broken nnd tho dip wasted. It Is much moro durable und n great deal cheaper In tho end to mnko four-Inch walls as BUggestod ahovo. Tho tnnk should bo so located that It can bo easily fenced, Usunlljf by placing It nt ono side of the hog pens, but ono Bide need bo fenced, tho hog fenco serving for the other side. |
