Show Letter from Royal C. Lowe. Tho following is a synopsis of a letter from Itoyal C, Lowe, who Is performing missionary work in Kngland, to W. P. Eaton, Manager of the Garland Base Ball Team: Nottingham, Aug. 12th, 1906. Dear Friend Walter Arrived in Kngland at last, but 1 can not complain as to tho Journey for It has certainly been pleasant. The sea was as smooth and quiet as could be most all tho way over, only one or two days that any of the passengers were sick. On my way over I visited Chicago, Chi-cago, Niagara, Buffalo, New York City and Boston and think N'ow York a very nice place or that is, some parts of It. Landed at Liverpool on the 10th but am now at my field of labor. TJio customs of the people hero In Knglaud nrc strange and to look at the way some of them dress, an American would SMy, "they wore far behind tho times." I do not know whether wc could safely say they arc behind the times because their dress is some different to the American dress but nevertheless I think I can safely say that I do not caro so much for their style as I do that of the Americans, The ladles of Kngland have very nice com-plcctlohs, com-plcctlohs, tftklng them m a people. One can sec some factory girls going ul'tng the walks, their clothes are dirty but to look at their faces ouo will cc a very ulco complect ion, that Ls if It bo not Umi deeply covered by dirt. The buildings are not high like those In Chi cago or New York, but the Interior of them Is very clean and nice. Clothing Is much cheaper hero than In America and one can secure tho best hair cut for 4 pence or about 8 cunt of American money. Tho climate Is very damp nnd now It looks as though It might be raining. rain-ing. Tho railroads have a very sloulehy way, or it appears that way to me. You have your baggage checked for a certain place and you must see that It Is takeu care of, they givo you tio checks and you must get your own when It is unloaded. un-loaded. The onglues are very small here but seem to do their work. One thing I miss here is the base bull parks like those In tho cast. When coming up tho southern const of Ireland our ship kept quite close to the coast, nfTonllng us a grand opportunity to see tho coast and we saw many light houses ami largo castles. They were built of white sub-stauee sub-stauee and looked very nice from a distance. dis-tance. Suppose tho boys havo becu doing lino work since I loft for I cannot think of them dolug otherwise. Kindly remetnbor me to all old friends for I feel that I havo many. With Best Wlshu, Iloyal O. Lowo 7 Devon St., Oft Carlton Koad, Nottingham, Kuglaud. |
