Show BOY DROWNED IN CANAL. Falls From Foot Hrldgc nnd Is Found Two and One-half Miles Down the Strcnm. Donovnn, ngc 5 years nnd 0 months, the baby boy of Mr. nnd .Mrs. J.S. Cintwcll living southwest of this city, was drowned in the canal adjoining this city on the west Thursday afternoon of this week. His sisters, aged 7 and 0, went to get the horses across the canal nt 2 p. m. Thursday afternoon, unbeknown to their parents, Donovan also followed, follow-ed, his sisters forbidding him to do so. They, however, permitted him to go as far ns the loot bridge nnd he with his dog remained on this side. Tho girls found the horses nnd took them to tho stable In n few minutes. From tho house nn older son snw the boy cross nnd recross thu bridge. When the girls arrived ar-rived at the house the mother asked for her son. They said they left him nt the bridge. Mr. "Cnntwell and others begnn searching for the boy and after several hours inspection of the water nnd going up and doe 11 the banks of the stream no trace of the missing hoy could he found. Mr. Drew, the ditch-rider, turned oil the water but as it takes 11 hours to dry the ditch tho water subsided very slowly. No trace of the boy could be found up to 10 p. m. On their way to town they met a re.euelug party, composed of 11 number of our prominent elticus, who were supplied with lanterns, nets, hoots and various necessary enulppagc. Tho search was continued nil night At 12 p m the water had gone down somo and tho rescuers wnlded the dlleh nnd for two nnd one-half miles dllligently hunted hunt-ed for the body At 2:40 11 m yesterday morning die body was located within 200 yards from where the canal empties In to Salt Creek. Drs Francke and Green dhl nil In their power to restore him to life but their efforts were in vain. The rcscuelng party then mnde n hammock nnd laid the boy on it and formed 11 funeral fun-eral procession bringing him back to his home nnd parents who were grlef-slrlek-en and heartbsoken over the affair The community is shocked by the sud news Mr and Mrs Cnntwell have resided In I this city for about one year coining here I from Millvillc, Cache Co. They have n host of friends who sympathize with I them in this sad bereavement. At that time they shared and endured en-dured the sorrow almost alone, being away from friends and neighbors.
