Show FARMERS WILL OPERATE COOPERATE CO two interesting meetings ot of the beet growers ot of the county were held friday one at Treni tremonton Tre monton onton in th the e morning and another in this city in the evening president ephraim burguson ol of the state farm bureau was present anil and was assured by the farmers that they would accept the beet contract that could be secured for or 19 1923 23 and hewak authorized to work tor for their In interests teresta A resolution was adopted as follows bo be it resolved that we favor sugar beet contracts based upon the tonnage furnished the sugar company that it use 1922 contracts with minimum tonnage and leading scale up to a division on a maximum production production in his remarks president burguson Burgus oll called attention to the general stress in business and urged the farmers to face conditions with a determination to keep the wheels of progress moving even though it required a sacrifice at the present time to give up and not L grow beets unless certain demands were complied with will injure the farmers as well as the sugar companies he said because they too cannot operate at a loss the sugar companies are working under a heavy debt antl and are having a struggle to keep things moving ile he told of sending a representative to chicago to confer with mr air wrigley principal owner of tho tha gunnison Gunn lson factory to secure a better contract for their beet growers when the man arrived in chicago ho he was told that mr wrigley could give him three minutes and it did not take that long to say was necessary the representative brought back the message that unless beets be secured on a contract that would enable the sugar factory to operate without a loss to the company to close the factory the same flame condition applies to all sugar factories inasmuch aa aalthe the sugar company y gave a bonus to employees for production in tile the factories it was the sent sentiment t at the meeting friday that the farmers ask tor for a bonus for extra tonnage on the farms farm in his remarks john P bohngren Hohn gren who is an employee of the sugar company as well as a farmer said that the utah idaho sugar company was owing or more at the beginning of last year and while able to reduce the indebtedness to some extent was still considerably involved this year the company has added 50 cents per ton over over last years sugar beet contract and felt that the sugar company had did all in its power under existing conditions the farmers should be allowed all that the sugar companies can possibly give tor foe their beets as they have had an extremely hard timo time during the past few years and especially the year that has just come to a close when the farmer prospers we all have better times when he la IS financially inanc lally depressed business generally is poor especially in agricultural districts thero there is hardly a man in the community who is not willing villing to pay more for the sugar he consumes it if the higher price will benefit the farmer it was waa brought out at the meetings friday that the sugar companies were willing to pay the highest possible price per ton tor for beets and it K is to be hoped that both the sugar companies and the farmers will see aee better times this year |
