Show OLD PEACH TREES. What Has Been Done with Them, Proof of What Can Be Done to Make Them Productive. It Is a fact well known to many horticultural hor-ticultural scientists thnt old peach trees may be brought back to a stato of vigor by severely cutting back tho trees nnd thus keeping them out of fruiting for two or threo seasons. Peach trees develop wood with great rapidity, and so quickly ovorcomo the effects ot sovoro cutting back. Many of tho old peach troea on our farms could bo mado to bear good crops again by being cut back. In our illustration wo show the re suits of cutting back as practiced on an old pench treo at tho Ohio experiment experi-ment station. This tree, illustrated In tho corner of our Illustration was already al-ready an old treo and waning In vigor when the station purchased the ground on which It stands. In tho spring of 1905 It was severely cut back and left. Tho cutting back was effective in starting now growths, nnd in tho fall of tho samo year It looked as shown In tho cut. To nil appearances It hat renewed Its youth. |
