of 0 the box elder stake which was held on sunday afternoon tile the purpose of 0 the convention was to discuss various phases of the work and generate a little more enthusiasm among the teachers the speakers who prepared something special tor for the occasion were bishops H W valentine ot of this city lorenzo N stohl and david A smith ot of salt lake city president mark austin of 0 the fremont Frera ont stake and whose home is at sugar city idaho was also present and made some fitting remarks bishop valentine discussed the question front from the standpoint of the responsibility devolving upon the ordained teachers and priests and he gave illustrations from his own experience bence with boys to show that after a boy has been promoted from a deacon to a teacher lie ho is lost practically tor for no activity has been provided tor for that grade of 0 the priesthood bishop valentine read the revelation in fit which the duties of the priests ests and teachers are outlined and he declared that lie he had never read any injunction to the effect that elders seventies or high priests should be charged with the responsibility of doing ward teaching the matter of sending out priests and teachers to visit the homes of the people has been tried out by bishop valentine and he declared it to be his I 1 I 1 earnest and honest conviction that these young men will do the work it if it Is placed upon them bishop stohl stressed the importance of ward teaching and pointed out the responsibility resting upon every man who holds the priesthood for that authority makes every man his brother 3 keeper ile he deplored the alto too generally of teachers its over the phone pr by just a quick call or by meeting the people on the street reporting a visit the bishop stated that in fit some instances reports have been made of a hundred per cent visit and yet the people of the district have declared that a ward teacher has not been in their homes for months these examples were cited merely to bring forcibly to the attention of those present the tact fact that such work will bring its own condemnation tor for the lord will not be men responsible for the authority that has been given them bishop stohl suggested the following slogan tor for ward teachers get the spirit of the lord and he read from the ancient prophesies concerning the duty of men who have been made the watchmen on the towers of af zion and lie he promised those who will engage in ward teaching in the true spirit of it greater joy than they have ever experienced before in their lives president austin spoke his pleasure in leing being present and listening to the inspirational addresses and partaking of the spirit of 0 the occasion he declared that the work of 0 the lord is the most wonderful institution in tho the world and those who are privileged to engage in it are blessed above all people bishop david A smith prefaced his remarks by relating hla his first experience as a ward teacher in the companionship panion ship of a man whom all the boys ot of the ward had come to regard with a spirit of dislike and distrust because they thought him to be severe and unsympathetic with boys the man had made a friend of the boy immediately they had left the boys home and all the antipathy which the speaker felt tor for h his is companion before melted away and lie he came to know the older man to be a real servant of the lord and a friend to the boy bishop smith discussed the wonderful opportunity that Is given a ward teacher to minister unto the people and actually save souls preparatory gospel given to help men to prepare themselves tor for eternal life president S norman lee spoke his pleasure with the convention and urged tho the brethren to treasure the inspiration and words of wisdom which had come from those who had spoken he commended the teachers tor for their faithfulness in the past and asked tor for a continuation of that splendid cooperation in order that the box elder stake might measure up in all things and be found doing the will of the lord before closing a few minutes were given to general discussion and a number of valuable suggestions yvere were
