Show ELIZA MERRIL IE A T THOP G funeral services for ellza eliza jane mer rill wo wre held in the meeting house at tropic march 7 at 2 p in tho the services were conducted by maurice cope and were as aa follows the speakers were bishop james jamea IL ott ot 0 Houri eville president W J henderson and james B D heywood of panguitch Pan gultch prisident arthur king of escalante and maurice copo cope ot of tropic the following songs were rendered by tho the choir under the direction of of wesley brady como come lot let Us arise 1 I know that my aly redeemer lives oh it Is wonderful rest rost rest tor for the weary soul duet by david and sarah willis of Henri henrieville eville henry A jolley offered the invocation benediction was pronouns pro pronounced ed by john H davis of Cann cannonville onville tho the floral offering ott ering was beautiful moro more than people were in attendance and a long lino line of autos followed the body to its last resting place the grave was dedicated by jesse L jolley her six daughters were in attendance also twenty three grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren ellza eliza J van luven merrill was born at bath davis county illinois august 25 1845 during the persecutions of 0 the mor mons in th the state estate of illinois when she was an infant the family was driven from place to place until the spring of 0 1862 1852 when they started across the plains la fa the company ta bt captain wimmer arriving in salt lake valley october 1 1852 se settling tiling at north ogden where she was baptized baptised sed the following owing summer by bishop crandall dunn when johnsons army arrived in 1858 the family moved south to Spring springville ville utah in 1859 they moved to providence cache cc county anty and from there moved to paradise in the same county in 1861 where she mar ried john E merrill april 17 1862 they were sealed in the endowment house in salt lake city november 5 6 1864 in the fall of 1865 she and her hus bus band with two small children were called to settle on the muddy in novada nevada the following year they moved to leeds washington county from froli there they moved to panguitch Pan gultch in 1871 later they took up their abode at hillsdale 1886 found them in clifton garfield county when the town of clifton broke up they moved to tropic where sh she e has resided until her death march 5 6 1930 her husband having died be december cember 9 1909 she was the mother of eight daughters and two sons six daughters still survive besides sixty eight grandchildren and OS great grandchildren grandc hildrea her children noy now living are mrs mary F willis wallis Henr Hear leville mrs lucinda J alvey escalante calante Ea mrs elizabeth provo prove mrs minerva cattail and frances of tropic during the early life of 0 grandma merrill she went through all the hard sips ot of pioneer life she was vms a hard worker helping to build seven homes and while moving from pla place cc to place often times she suffered from exposure to heavy storme and scarcity of food and while her husband was herding and fighting indians on the road freighting to some saw mill or working at something else away from home she was always found faithful in caring tor for the children at home bomb during her entire life she was a faithful latter day da saint and held beld many PO positions sitione of 0 trust such as aa president of the primary association relief society and sunday school teacher and at any kind ot of a reli gaus gathering she always occupied i front seat beat besides her relatives a host of friends are left to mourn her departure |
