Show THE T E ART OF SPELLING of all accomplishments in a literary way there is perhaps none more important than the ability to spell correctly great men of times are not very beautiful penmen but they always write with character which Is instantly recognizable in their signature or any specimen ot of their penmanship and so BO one does not look at the pen manship so much as at the character revealed in it but it common words are found to be misspelled they are almost instantly recognized and the reader experiences a distinct shock to his sensibilities and likewise to his estimate ot of the writer one ot of the most brilliant penmen this at state lie has produced is ia reported to have declared that it Is a waste of time to practice writing purely tor for the purpose ot of acquiring the ability to make beautiful curves and perfectly straight letters ile he declared that he fAin self felt that he had squandered many precious hours in acquiring his skill and the satisfaction produced by the ability to write a beautiful hand did not begin to compensate tor for the time required to master the art his advice to al all I 1 students Is to acquire the ability to write a legible hand the style to be distinctive of 0 the writers personality and waste no more time in an endeavor to become a brilliant and beautiful penman unless the individual desires to make penmanship a profession prote aBlo A A woeful lack ot of ability to spell correctly is noticeable in the work ot of the students in the higher grades ol of the he element elementary ary schools as well as those in high school the application ot of the old time spelling match as a class exercise would be interesting as a test to determine the ability ot of the individual students to spell common words correctly the practice would also undoubtedly stimulate closer application to this particular study and there is no question as to the necessity ot of such application on the part ot of students who are at present getting their education i |
