Show HIGH SCHOOL principals MEET in the school principals of pluto plute garfield and kane counties met in panguitch Pan gultch the latter part of last week to study some of the common problems of the throe three counties fred at fowler superintendent of the kane county schools acted as chairman of the group at their meeting of a month ear earlier fler three problems had bad been assigned Ll Li barles to tc principal W W miles of the G II 11 S at pan gultch report cards to oswald pearson principal of 0 the valley high alk a orderville derville Or and extracurricular extra curricular activities tivi ties to principal baker of the Cir circleville cleville high school in the matter of libraries it was found that Cir circleville cleville probably had the larger number of volumes five jh undred all told in general the high school libraries of tho the high schools in the three counties considered were thought to be inadequate there was found a a lack ot of up to date reference works Pan gultch leading in this respect with a new encyclopedia britannica likewise pan gultch was ahead in the number of magazines taken some sixteen being subscribed for all told by that school it was wag agreed at this meeting that a library fund should be allowed by each district per high school and mr miles was asked to put this reso lution before each of the three district superintendents asking them to take the matter up with their respective boards mr parsons paper on report cards was very illuminating he had collected cards from nearly all the districts in the state thare were cards of all kinds from the full otter etter page type to the tha small card type with provision only for the marks the purpose of report cards it was brought out was to let the parent know how the student was rated by the school it was generally agreed that any system of marking was inadequate and wanting y that it did not mean much hild and that atter after all it was nothing more or less jess than the teachers opinion of the student and that it was no real or ultimate criterion 0 the childs learning or his capacity to learn the only marls mark which i a student needs Is he has passed or not but we still cling to the old A B system because of the universities mr air baker touched on clubs such as literary civic home economics pep social gun basket ball baseball track girls social and lastic he thought that all education was wa a not in books ut that the ilie child should have training in things outside of books in things S uch such as leadership character and morality coupled with a social or civic sense of his or her place in the community and the ae government at large all dinall in all it was felt that the meeting was very profitable and that the tinte time had been well spent rif in ail all probability thase these meetings will become a Por permanent manet thing in the f lu t u r e I 1 |
