Show BOND lisue OPPOSED OPPOSE editor news I 1 just received a letter which came from the office of the board of 0 education but unsigned relative to a bond issue of the letter is apprehensive arid and indefinite tile the nearest concrete statement Is we should build the first part of oe he bear rier high school large enough to accamo date three hundred students but they do not say they will build it even it they have the money I 1 am tully fully in sympathy with the erection ot of a high school in the bear river valley but not at this particular time it would be a physical impossibility to complete the building tor for the coming season with the funds from this bond issue any attempt would be only a waste of money and energy besides no immediate use would come from the expenditure further than this the price of material Is almost prohibitive and I 1 am told that a large commission would have to lie be paid to float a 5 per cent bond I 1 recall doing some building when the other bond issue was made some seven or eight years ago we bought flooring at that time tor for 45 per thousand feet that same flooring today costs per thousand feet shingles at the same grade today 9 lath the same grade today 20 and everything that enters into a building has advanced three or four hundred per cent I 1 do not think any great calamity will corne come to the schools by the postponement pon ement of the erection of any nw buildings this year or until such time as we can have at least one turning over of the products of the valley there is no doubt but that the teachers c are underpaid but close coop co op aeration with the commissioners Commissio hers the business men and some of the larger tax payers would evolve some plan whereby the salaries of the teachers could be increased 1 I think thinh it is the patriotic duty of every citizen and tax payer of 0 box elder county to set his face like flint against the apparent mania tor for encouraging cou raging our public boards to carry on any large building projects at the present time it is easy tor for boosters boasters bo to talk at this time ot of the year but it Is the honest toilers boilers and property owners who feel the burden when the collection day comes As for one when I 1 go to the polls on march I 1 will refuse to mortgage A bear river valley taxpayer couples ot of fathers and mothers executed the
