Show DEAD BANDIT identified j EN 1 s yesterday afternoon the man all lying dead at the stohl morg morgue z e and who was killed by special officers early tuesday morning when lie he paid a visit to the davis barn where the goods stolen from the leader store had been cached was identified ed as walter L taylor of 0 west first north street salt lake city the identification was made by mrs taylor deserted wife of 0 the dead man and who recently tiled filed divorcement proceedings against him in the third district court mrs taylor was accompanied to this city by a friend and in company with sheriff job welling deputy sheriff joseph R olson city marshal arshal Al wm N lee and a representative of the news went to the morgue and viewed the remains As mrs airs taylor stepped into the room she halted a moment arid and gazed upon the features stepping up nearer she directed a penetrating look upon the dead man for a moment then reeled and fell into the arms 0 of her companion subbing convulsively she regained her composure quickly however and then calmly viewed the body she identified the dental work the vaccination marks on the arm aria the color of the eyes and declared that the only difference between the features of the dead man and those of mr taylor when she saw him last in fa december was that mr air taylor had pimples all over his face the features of the dead are smooth and aid of anything resembling pimples though there are taint faint white clothes here and there indicating that there have been sores on the face it was suggested that perhaps mrs airs taylor could make her identification more positive it she saw the mans chest and hands arid and when those parts of 0 the body were exposed she gave little gasps of pain and said yes him the hat the lie man wore when he was killed was 4 placed on tho th head and mrs airs taylor nodded her recognition the little woman stood up under the ordeal as long as possible and then rushed from the morgue with the exclamation cla clar mation nation 1 I cant stay here any longer mrs taylor was near a state of collapse and was taken upstairs into the couch room of the furniture store I 1 where she laid down and regained her composure composure after which she was interrogated by the officers what she divulged to them they are withholding but the tact fact that the in has been made tive opens the way tor for future action mrs airs taylor was apprised ot of the tact fact that she could indicate what disposition should be made of 0 the remains and she informed the sheriff that she would consult with the family in salt lake and advise him earlier in the day deputy sher sheriff fr wm win brown deputy sheriff bert ber crites deputy sheriff julian gieger cleger of ogden sheriff C E nalder kalder of davis county and the tha manager of a greek pool hall ball in ogden had viewed the remains and declared that they were those of a young man whom they had known in ogden and who formerly wag was employed in one of the garages of this city the young man in question had gone to california and telegrams to the addresses given elicited the information that the party is at present in california the same identification had been made by local residents who knew the man who worked in the garage and tor for a time it appeared that there could be no mistake the arrival of mra airs taylor however cuu pled with the receipt of an answers to the messages sent to california just a little while before mrs taylor came disposed of that line of investigation the of the identification ot of so many who declared the dead man to be the man who is now alive in the coast city illustrates the ease with which the human eye can sometimes be deceived the first declaration that the dead bandit was walter L taylor came froin deputy sheriff arthur waller of salt lake who compared the description sent out with that of taylor who lad bad been in prison twice tor for a period of ninety days on a charge of forgery and sentenced the second time on november 20 1919 tor for a term ot of six months tor for failure allure to provide tor for his wife and child ile he was released on december 11 with the understanding that lie he would secure employment the local officers received photographs of taylor yesterday and compared them with photographs of the dead man but opinion ion was divided as to the resemblance practically everyone who saw the pie tures found something in both sets to confirm the belief that they were the pictures ot of the same sa man this morning sheriff welling received a phone message from rom sat salt lake advising him that mrs taylor requests that the body be not turned over to any medical school but that it be buried and she be advised where it is interred action in that matter rests with the county commissioners iv here or when interment will tadd tak place |
