CREATION POINT front from which is displayed a large part of the earths geological history the main features of 0 this rock writing will be pointed out by tho the guide to those who wish it five minutes walk further on brings us its to what many regard as the apex of the whole trip PRECIPICE POINT one of the sheerest she erest and highest precipices of tile the grand canyon two stretches of river appear here the tha painted desert shows at its best and to the north stands up the great headland head land cape final this Is a spot not to describe but to sit upon for awhile and look and think we must at last move on though and in a few minutes more we are at ANGELS VIEW whence looking back over our path from precipice point we behold the ANGELS WINDOW carved out of the rock on which we stood this Is a sight seldom passed by the camera carrier without a snap or two the window Is a striking thing but it with the view through it of oc river and purple wall beyond make a scene that will probably be long remembered down tile the hill we go now to something yet ya more odd od and different CLIFF CAVERN tue me site of 0 Roosevel ts camp during his stay here in 1913 it Is a weird place sheltered over head by forty feet of shelving rock with an outlook into the canyon that brings queer sensations years ago there stood on this shelf an extensive village of cliff dwellings though these have hava since been destroyed in trail making after a cooling drink at the spring where abero the cliff dweller of old once tilled filled his earthen jars we retrace our steps to tho the car it Is ou ourilin ralin our aim to reach fantasy vista and far view to get a sample of their vivid coloring under the afternoon sun on reaching them we have their grandeur as before but now painted with a new and more glorious beauty we cannot linger long hero though for we want to take in the sunset at BRIGHT ANGEL POINT which la Is now giving its best to its admirers during the return drive delvo ot of halt an hour w vp e are well entertained by the kaibab door deor which are now coming out of their daytime day time retreats tor for the evenings grazing at bright angel rim we take a parting look at the canyon and with the descending sup sun say au revoir to it ft the diviner dinner gong has sounded from the dining room not far ar away so wo we leave the great gorge to the shadows which blanket it tor for the night thus ending what many have declared to be the greatest scenic day of their lives on this trip each party barty traveling in wyllo way cars is accompanied by mr mckoe mckee who has acted as guide on the north rim tor for nine seasons last passed and ot of whom one of his fits distinguished guests has written in seeing these sights from the newly accessible van tage points one is fortunate it if he has as his guide thomas II 11 mckee mckea of the wylle wylie camp with whom the north rim Is a passion and to whose devoted explorations and sturdy efforts in trailblazing trail blazing the visitors ot of the first real season owe owa A a large debt of gratl gratitude tude outlook magazine nov 1925 chiler the trip is a succession ot of yond wonderful erful scenic displays it has also instructive value when someone is by who Is familiar with the region its gerlof and history it Is always mr mckees particular pleasure pleas plea uia suie to point ouide out details and answer questions ot of this another appreciative guest protella wr wrote otella in his book 1 I could not but envy our good friend mckee whose repeated visits had made him familiar with all the details ot of the wonderful panorama but his familiarity had not lessened his appreciation ot of the beauty and grandeur ot of the scene I 1 thin think he be enjoyed it ft as aa much as any ot of us though ho be had seen it many times aleven sleven wonderlands Wonder lands of the american west by thomas D imurphy dmurphy L C page co publishers the cost ot of this cape royal trip is five dollars per person a car going with a minimum of four oar passengers A arrangements may also be made at wylle wylie way camp tor for the trip to point sublime but to him who has only a sin single gle sightseeing sight seeing day to spend on the north rim the cape royal trip is advised b because because it offers much more tor for the time expense and effort while the view westward from sublime is one ot of the canyons finest the outlook eastward 19 shut oft off by shiva temple which juts out in front of iti the ch chief I 1 of disadvantage of the tha sublime trip however is that one travels a long way to get the view and then a long way back with little oi 0 interest to see during the two journeys the views from cape royal and point sublime them themselves selve a are about equal lu in values but the cape royal trip is over a better road and gives a hand hundred red told fold more in varle variety ty detail and historic interest both 96 goin gand returning |
