Show fairy tale MARY GRAHAM BOWER co 1 HI 04 U BRAVE newfoundland 1 I have ti it truo true story to tell you vou title tills evening said daddy of it a newfound land dog that they are very bin big dogs you know from the pictures youve een teen t oven if youve never seen it real one oil oh ive seen one said nancy dont aou ou remember daddy when we were visiting our cousin sho she had find a big newfoundland log doc and nd I 1 used to ride him till oil about whitt fun I 1 lid did have and what a wonderful log dog ho was added nick nich lle lie wits way a marvelous fellow 11 they are wonderful dogs clogs daddy continued and tills this log dog was one of the regular ones too how many bravo brave things done how many lives saved they are arc heroes and they tire are always doing splendid things and being noble they tire are so bo clev clever er and intelligent too but to tell you about this MIS dog iio was as living in newfoundland is aa well as being it a newfoundland dog ills lionte bonus wits was right on alie coast and one day there was it a terrible storm form the wind raged and howled and the waters were dark anti and wild the waves were very high mid and they dashed clashed up lip in n tremendous fashion on the great rocks suddenly a ship which was wao trying to make its way through the terrible storm way was dashed upon the rocks it ads shipwrecked and the poor passengers did not know what to do the water would soon come rustling in the boat what would the end be they hoped and prayed foi safety but they could scarcely believe that safety would come and that they would live through tills this horrible experience ft 4 1 I used to ride him i for it seemed as though no one could come out but to he help them through the gulo gale and through it vie trie storm I 1 then they threw throw put their alfe line but bu the life line wits caught on some of the rocks the poor shipwrecked people did not no know what to do they get hold ot of the lifeline life line allne and those on the shore to wham they had cast out the lifeline life line itne pull it to the shore because the rocks held it last A newfoundland dog showed allowed his bis sorrow in his eyes as lie he watched ti alie to efforts being made to save the people the efforts which w rent working out into anything the people dare go into the water it was tod weird wll an and d boats would only have been dashed on the rocks too but the newfoundland dog took the great and mighty plunge people would drown unless lie he did what lie could perhaps Perli aps lie he succeed but at least lie he would try the men explained to him that the rope must be released from the rocks upon which it had caught yes he understood he wagged his tall and barked and s showed b owed by ills his wise eyes that he unde understood tood then luto into the water he be went bravely he swam on nothing counted for him buttee but the fact that people would drown it if he be set free that life line and to the lifeline life line lie be swam swain his brave brav heart hart never lost courage and he be rel released eased them the lif lifeline life eline e line then lt was easy enough for the men to fasten it upon the shore when ho he had brought the stout rope to them efiem in his teeth beeth he swam with that rope tightly held and lie never yer let go 0 of f it right through the high waves right tb through roukh the wa waters where men did not dare go then they got the people from the shipwrecked boat ashore ninety two people who have been drowned were saved by y the newfoundland dog A little baby wits was among the nut number 6 and when the great brave animal waif wa gratefully patted and thanked than kedi by thoa ohe ae had rea rescued cued he kissed jhc thc little litti 1 babas hand and said in his dog I 1 way it Is only what I 1 should have done M |
