To jog along and eat and drink merely to keep animal life in him is his sole object ob-ject In living. He has no purpose to live; no purpose ahead to accomplish, and no desire to advance. He lives ignorant ig-norant of life's object and purpose. Such people are neither useful nor ornamental. or-namental. They help only to make up numbere, but so far as they are of real benefit to the world they might as well never have been born. They are the blanks in the checker board of life. It was Constable Monahan, but it must bs remembered that no I blame in the affair has been attached I to him; It was purely accidental that I the Indian was given an. opportunity to escape. The horses became tangled and undoubtedly one of them would have killed itself had not help been of-ered. of-ered. Some hold, however, that both officers were slightly censurable, knowing know-ing the treachery of Indians, to allow the buck to sleep without chains on him. |
