To the Editor of The Evening Dispatch: There is such a place aB Cedar Fort in this county and one of the eociai events of the season took place here Monday evening. Bishop Eh Bennett, a venerable and worthy pioneer of the o'ace having reached his sixty-third birthday, was completely surprised and delighted by the members of his ward. At 7 o'clock and while the bishop was on his way to visit a supposed 6k;k 8ister,in company with another brother, while passing the schoolhouse the two gentlemeu were invite i in a few mor menss to assist in settling a supposed difficulty between teacher and pupil. On stepping upon the threshold, two tables the hall s length, groaninu under its burden of substantial, delicate and beautiful viands, surrounded by a hundred smiling faces who whispered surprise, greeted them. The town choir sang a song of gjeeting,while the astonished aston-ished bishep was escorted to his place at the boj.rd. After a few broken i hough ftp, ropriate remarks he sat down to the feast. The feast over, toasts were given. An appropriate program was rendered, alter which they tripped the fantastic until the wee email hours. Fully one hundred and fifty personB participated in the exercise. 'Wasn't it excellent," "A grand success" suc-cess" ar-d " Well, we had a jolly time" and the like were heard on our way h :ine. |
