Show THE TERRITORIES BILLS Can't Pass This Session Negroes Mourn For DouKlas-California Oranges O. E Washington, Feb. 24. The senate program for the remainder of the session, ses-sion, which will close at 12 o'clock tomorrow to-morrow week, is to follow the sundry civil bill, the consideration of which will begin tomorrow, with the legislative, legisla-tive, executive and judicial bill and then to take up the naval bill and lastly the general deficiency appropri-tion appropri-tion bill. , While it is understood that there will probably be' spasmodic attempts to get up other measures of general importance, the best opinion is that none of these will be successful, in cases where there is objection. It i3 possible that Senator Butler will renew re-new his efforts in behalf of the pooling bill, and that Senator Gecrge will also again attempt to restore the bankruptcy bank-ruptcy bill to its position as the unfinished un-finished business; but it is not in the least probable that the efforts of either will be successful. Senator Faikner is also hopeful of securing brief consideration of the territorial ter-ritorial admission bills. An order has already been made for a night session Tuesday for the consideration of bills to which there are no objections. The probablities include night sessions ses-sions every night after Tuesday, continuing con-tinuing yirtually through the night of Saturday and Sunday, and also a session ses-sion next Sunday during the day, These, it is believed, will be held to dispose of the appropriation bill3, there being many provisions in those remaining remain-ing two considered which lead to prolonged pro-longed debate. There is also a probability prob-ability of debate over tke next report of the conference committee on the diplomatic bill, involving the appropriation appro-priation for the Hawaiian cable. DEPLOKE his death. Washington, Feb. 21. The Union League of the District of Columbia, composed of representative colored men of the capital, has adopted appropriate ap-propriate resolutions deploring the death of Frederick Douglas. The resolutions reso-lutions recommend that "All those wbo appreciate his eminent and invaluable in-valuable seryices to his country, thia race and to the cause of humanity, should adopt some emblem of mourn-iDg mourn-iDg for thirty days and especially should this be done by that class of Americans whom he did so much to make free." The members of the league will wear a token of mocrning for a period of thirty days. CALIFORNIA. OKANGES. Sacramento, Cal., Feb 21. It haying hay-ing been reported in the east that the California orange crop bad been badly damaged by frost, Jas. A. Barwick, director di-rector of the California weather service, ser-vice, furnished the following lowest recorded temperatures for this season at the following places situated in the orange belts of both northern and southern California, which will put a quietus on any false reports that may be made, Lowest temperatures iirthe northern California citrus belt: Oroville, 30; Palermo, 26; New Castle, 'zi5; Orange-ville, Orange-ville, 25 and Sacramento 30. Lowest temperatures in southern California citrus belt; Arlington Heights, 32; Riyerside San Bernardino and San Jacino, 27; Ontario, 31; Pasa-deua, Pasa-deua, 34; Pomona, 34; Los Angeles, 37 and Santa Barbaraj 37. |
