Show tycomiDg's .Early Judiciary. "Fair-Play-Men" was the title given to a part of Lycoming county, Pa., now densely populated and dotted with prosperous towns and cities. The proprietary pro-prietary government, with a view to protecting the Indians from intrusion, had forbidden the survey and settlement settle-ment of the region, but some hard treated treat-ed and hard handed Scotch-Irish pioneers pio-neers found their way into the forbidden forbid-den territory, aad being outside the immediate im-mediate jurisdiction of any properly constituted tribunal they chose three of their number to settle disputes and called call-ed them fair play men. The decisions of this tribunal, especially as to boundaries, bound-aries, were enforced by the whole community com-munity and came in time even to be respected re-spected by the courts.
