Show To Elect Senators. Mr Turpie in the senate spoke yesterday yes-terday bb follows: "When we recall the harsh criminations, crimina-tions, the gross charges of pecuniary corruption and of fraudulent combination combina-tion and intrigue, disgraceful and dishonorable dis-honorable to the whole body with which a prolonged senatorial contest is accompanied, whether in parly confidence confi-dence or in open assembly, the removal of such evil should be deemed a prime political necessity. It has been said that the Grand Central railway has chosen a senator in a certain state. The Central bank has chosen another elsewhere, and the Central association of mining and manufacture have defeated de-feated fully a third. Nothing is intended in-tended to be assumed here concerning the truth or falsily of these assertious or accusations. Hat these malfeasant chargeB have ex'etence. The wsy of their riddance is piain. If the choice of, Hhe constituent members of this body were left to the mass of voters in the state, the charges would be infin- ; itely lessened. They would altogether disappear if no reasonable grounds could be given for their support." |
