Show FURTHER PARTICULARS iff the Assault Upon Old Man Anderson at Vine, ard the Other Day. Vineyard, "Jan. 18 Correspondence Correspond-ence Dispatch. N.. P. Nielson ot Vineyard precinct aud a miner ty profession, pro-fession, has bet n arrested this week by Constable Sweosen and ia now under bonde to appear next Tuesday before Juatice Maag to anavver to the charge oi committing assault and battery upon the per8on of John F. Anderson, alao a resident of Vineyard precinct. The particulars of the case are: That , on Tuesday last, while Mr. Andersen, who ia well aavanced in years, was driving his cows to water, aud near the residence of Ann Cable, someone riding rid-ing on horseback camt stealthily up behind be-hind him, and with a pistol or some other glittering instrument, dealt the old man three or four teriffic blows upon the head, knuckiL? him off hia horse, and leaving him on the ground in an almost unconscious condition, with blood flowing freely from his wounds. A young man who was some distance eff, thougt.t he heard feeble cries for help, looked towards the place from where the Bound came and observed a man on horseback ride rapidly weBt towards the county road. It has been known for s ime time back that bad blood existed between Nielsen and Anderson, and beirgnea neighbors altercations frequently took place between be-tween them and threats have been made on the part of Nielsen, that he would some time in the future use the old man up; coupled with these threats and the unfriendly relations between ' them, suspicion has been fixed upon Nielsen and on the 12ad inst. he will have ample opportunity of clearing himjelf if ho can of the serious charge preferred egainBt him. If a jury trial is demanded it will be a difficult matter mat-ter to obtain a jurj in this precinct, because be-cause the belief is prevalent that Nielsen is guilty of perpetrating the dastardly crime.
