We are enjoying winter weather here yet. Last week snow fell four or five days in succession. The nights are very cold. Interest in the eisteddfod continues unabated. The committee is meeting meet-ing regularly aud making all the necessary neces-sary arrangements for the grand musical musi-cal festival, and everything points to a success. Professors E. Beesley and L D. Edwards have been si-cured as adjudicators ad-judicators and J . J. Dayis of 1'rovo will officiate in like capacity for tbs poetical compositions. There are at least Bix choirs who are in training for the contest. The choir at Winter Quarters was discontented under the leadership of Wm. T. Evans and he resigned. T. C. Reese has taken charge and everything is going along swimmingly. The Scofield choir is also making good progress. They haye entered en-tered for the two choir contests, tbe male choruB and the ladies' chorus. Speaking of matters musical, an event might be mentioned in that regard. re-gard. Mr. Joha Hood was engaged during the winter teaching music in the school, and at the close of school, which took place on April 12th. the children rendered an excellent ac count of their progress in tbe diyine art. Mr. Hood arranged an attractive attrac-tive program, the chief feature being a patriotic march in which twenty-fiye bovs and giila took part, and the parents par-ents of the children were so well pleased with It that they immediately took steps to manifest their appresia-tion. appresia-tion. The result was that last Wednesday Wednes-day evening a surprise was engineered on the gentleman. He has charge of the contest choir and Wednesday even ing when he went to the schoolhouse for practice he found, instead of the choir, a host of citizens gathered there In a neat speech Mr. Henrichsen, who was chairman, welcomed Mr. Hood, referring re-ferring to the fine work done by the children and thanking him for the interest in-terest he had manifested toward them. A concert followed, and three numbers at least on the program had a great attraction at-traction for the guest of the evening. These were three speeches by the scholars. The first, Earnest Peterson, presented Mr. Hood with a beautiful gold watch; the second, Fanny Johnstone, John-stone, piesented him with a metra nome, and the third. Maggie Price, presented him with a beautiful baton of ivory and ebony. The numbers on the program were all fine aud the evening even-ing closed with a dance. City Marshal Lloyd and his deputy J. L. Price are grading the streets beautifully, and Scofield is becoming more attractive in consequence. The men who were injared last month in the Winter Quarters mine through tbe roof caving in, are getting along all right Mr. Cunningham is able to attend work, but "Sandy" Wilson Wil-son is in the hospital yet.
